Men’s fashion week turned up a notch when it landed in Italy at the weekend. Read on for our review of three key Spring/Summer 2015 shows from Milan’s latest menswear collections including Gucci, Versace and DSquared.

A nautical theme was prominent throughout the entirety of the brand’s latest Spring/Summer collection, offering traditional jet set style in a modern mix of light tailoring and sleek separates. Suits had a certain air of naval captain about them with gold buttons embossed with anchors and frocking on the cuffs as if to denote rank. The remainder of the ‘crew’ sported wide-legged or cropped trousers, boat-necked sweaters and oversized duffel bags in classic colours of white, red and blue and all important sailor stripes.

Models sashayed down the catwalk in ice cream coloured double breasted suits and gold trimmed leather loafers with – as considered ‘a celebration of Versace’ – the Italian brands trademark Medusa head logo adorning most pieces. The collection was given a holiday vibe with slouchy tailoring in dusty pinks and pastel blues whereby Donatella Versace cited her inspiration from Cuba – a ‘relaxed part of the world’. Cut-out motifs, white jeans with palm print embroidery and gap year-worthy backpacks only echoed the laid-back style with a signature Versace-glamour edge.

Contemporary art was the key influence in DSquared²’s latest collection, mashing up iconic prints with bold sketches and graffiti in exuberant colours. Set on a base of bright white, there were many obvious references through daring prints and shocking colours from 1960s pop art to classic 80s sportswear. The clothes themselves were idyllic summer attire with the Caten twin brothers showcasing their fine craftsmanship through tailored shorts, cropped chinos, short sleeved shirts and timeless bombers.
