Continuing with our #flannels12days series of blog posts, our next brand focus is on McQ Alexander McQueen. Unveiled in 2006 as a sister line by the prolific British designer, McQ offers a ready-to-wear interpretation of the directional silhouettes and intricate prints associated with the mainline.

Current creative director, Sarah Burton ingeniously reworks elements of Lee McQueen’s iconic couture collections into her designs for McQ; subtly referencing the statement structures and vivid digital prints for which the late designer was renowned. Historical brand reference aside, Burton keeps each collection fresh and interesting, crafting her own legacy for the Alexander McQueen dynasty.

Inspired by McQueen’s Scottish heritage and London upbringing, a rebellious aesthetic has always set the brand apart from its contemporaries. Traditional Victorian attire, military uniforms and the diverse street culture centred around the music and arts scenes in the capital have inspired both McQueen and Burton’s designs.

Hotly anticipated during fashion week, McQ has been shown in fashion capitals around the globe to critical acclaim. Staple pieces to be expected from the womenswear collections include leather biker jackets, sculptural kaleidoscopically printed dresses and statement leggings. Little Black Dresses have a distinctive edge with prominent zips and peplum frills whilst simple T-shirts are given a twist with printed logos and vivid flashes of colour. The menswear range boasts directional jackets, boldly printed shirts and tailored denim. Luxe printed T-shirts and sweatshirts sit alongside sharply tailored formal jackets and luxuriously soft knitwear.

Accessories are a key focus of all McQ collections, with the razor blade motif featuring prominently throughout seasons on vividly hued silk scarves and bold leather and metallic cuffs. Statement sunglasses and a directional footwear line effortlessly complement the contemporary clothing.
