If the streets outside the AW26 shows could confirm one thing, it’s that we’re going back to black. But that doesn’t need to equate to boring. This season’s batch of street style stars are playing around with proportion, structure and texture (namely in the form of leather) to add a new slant to black’s timeless appeal.

Whoever said that skinny jeans are back was sorely mistaken, if the scenes outside the recent shows are anything to go by. The It boys to watch are the ones who continue to turn up the dial on the width of their trousers. Cargos, denim and everything in between: the verdict is to go for maximum volume for to ensure the most memorable impact.

Just like the loafer shoe that came before it; it seems the humble tie is the latest wardrobe staple once reserved for dads that’s been given a new-gen upgrade. The distinction between the old and refreshed version of the tie is how it’s styled. It doesn’t need to accompany a suit anymore; for AW26, use a tie to elevate even your slouchiest of off-duty looks.

Voluminous and chunky, to sleek and streamlined; the accessory of choice this season was undoubtedly the scarf. The appeal in the design lies in not just comfort, but the fact that it can take a cold-weather look from zero to one hundred in just a few seconds. After choosing your scarf of choice, all that’s then needed is to wrap it in a style of your choice, then you’re good to go.

An outerwear silhouette that’s been hard to ignore is the kind with a little extra length to it. There’s something unfailingly elegant about a coat with a hem that comes to just below knee; or even lower. AW26 show attendees were seen letting longline outerwear add a dapper slant to more relaxed looks, or dialling up the effect of formal ensembles such as three-piece suits and more.

Other outerwear styles spotted outside the recent shows had a sense of fluidity to them. Instead of heavy-duty layers, front row attendees were opting for sports-inspired windbreakers and rain jackets. They can protect from elements, without weighing you down. What’s more, they’re easily packed effortlessly styled; ideal for the man on the move.
