TRENDING: It’s a Barbie (pink) world - and we’re all living in it

Ever since we got those first looks of Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling as Barbie and Ken in the upcoming Greta Gerwig film, our lives have been taken over by a world of pink. Fuchsia. Bubble gum. Candy floss. Neon. You name it, it’s been on our bodies. The key to nailing it? Going all in.

Dubbed ‘Barbiecore’ (because everything must become a ‘core’ these days), over 60 years of pop culture has translated into an all-out fashion takeover. To date, Margot Robbie has been snapped rollerblading in neon pink cycling shorts and an ‘80s-inspired leotard (with Ken, of course) and decked out head-to-toe in bright pink flares, waistcoat and neckerchief. And we can’t get enough. Amid a turbulent year, full on fun is what we’re demanding from our wardrobes.

Valentino are so hot for the colour that their AW22 show was dedicated (almost) entirely to a specific shade of fuchsia, from the threads to the set (with a contrasting all-out black to keep things sharp not sickly). So invested were they that they created their own pink with the masters of colour: Pantone. The result was the Pink PP Collection that debuted at Paris Fashion Week in February.  And everyone from Lizzo to Dua Lipa to Zendaya have been in the looks since.

Jacquemus made early moves last year with their 24-hour all-pink pop up in Paris, which was decorated solely in hot pink. The store featured floor-to-ceiling vending machines filled with their now cult Bambino Long bags in the shade and celebrated an entire collection dedicated to the shade, dubbed “PINK 2”.

Versace weren’t dedicating their entire AW22 collection to pink, but they were giving a good nod. Think bubble-gum pink coats, co-ordinating sets, slogan t-shirts and corset dresses. The latter was most recently adopted by Hailey Bieber, whose stylist Karla Welch shared the look alongside the caption: “Paging the Barbie movie.”

And she’s not the only getting in on the act. Kim Kardashian has been playing into her new platinum-blonde persona with a head-to-toe candy-floss pink Balenciaga look, from their cult classic Hourglass covered in pink gems to a hoodie and all-in-one leggings and boots combo.

While Megan Fox has been adopting pink fits at every occasion, including the premiere of partner Machine Gun Kelly’s new documentary Life in Pink (what else) from the likes of Andamane.

Over on TikTok, #barbiecore has racked up 7.8m views, while #barbiecoreaesthetic has a cool 342.9k. Instagram is flooded with the colour. And the SS22 collections? They just can’t get enough. Everything from bags to sunglasses to dresses are tapping in, with designers from Balenciaga to Jacquemus and Christian Louboutin delivering the goods.

But don’t stop at fashion. Everyone familiar with the OG pink style icon – Barbie – will know she always works a pink lip and a strong blush. Patrick Ta’s sell-out Major Headlines Blush Duos were made for the occasion. Pair with NARS’ Afterglow Lip Gloss in shade ‘Lover to Lover’ or Gucci Beauty’s Rouge A Levers Voile Lipstick in 406 Mill Rose for an intense pink lip. Finish things off with Natasha Denona’s Mini Love Eyeshadow Palette for flush across the lids.

As for our minds? We’ll be reciting, ‘C’mon Barbie let’s go party,’ until further notice.
