HOW TO: NAIL YOUR GROOMING ROUTINE

A good grooming routine is key. We’re not saying you have to follow a strict 18-step beauty routine - narrow it down to at least five (one every minute) and you’ll still see the benefits. Not sure where to start? We’ve got it covered. From Acqua di Parma and Clinique to Tom Ford Beauty and La Mer, discover the best grooming products to include in your morning and evening routines (and what order to use them in).

STEP 1: WASH YOUR FACE

First things first – cleanser. Washing your face helps to clean away dirt and pollution from the skin, open pores and soften hairs making it easier to shave

So, what are the best skin cleansers for men? Typically, men’s skin tends to be thicker and oiler so go for a heavy-duty cleanser. Infused with detoxifying charcoal, the Clinique Charcoal Cleanser helps to draw out dirt, impurities and excess oil that can clog up pores and lead to blemishes. If you’re looking for something that’s lighter on the skin but still gets the job done, Kiehl’s Fuel Energizing Face Wash removes impurities without overdrying the skin. Infused with vitamin C and E it also helps to brighten the skin and promotes healing – a big tick from us.

STEP 2: START SHAVING

How to get a fully clean shave? Start by applying a nourishing shaving gel to the hair in an upwards motion. Acqua di Parma’s Barbiere Shaving Gel or Shieseido’s Shaving Cream are both a fail-safe option and will make your shave smoother. Plus, they make it easy for you to spot any bits you might have missed.

If you suffer with dry or sensitive skin and the thought of shaving makes you wince, Omorovicza has you covered. Enriched with Sea Mayweed, the Soothing Shave helps to soothe and calm minor irritations and dryness on the skin. Remember, a good formula will help to protect the skin against irritation such as razor rash and will results in fewer nicks – win win.

STEP 3: APPLY YOUR TREATMENTS

Serums and eye creams are essential to a good skincare routine. Think of them as heavy-duty formulas that help to target specific skin concerns.

Looking for a serum for dry skin? For an extra dose of hydration, Clinique’s Maximum Hydrator Water-Gel Concentrate alleviates dry, tight skin. If fine lines and wrinkles are your concern, Sisleÿum’s Anti-Aging Global Revitalizer contains active ingredients that help to shield the skin from harmful free radicals that promote ageing.

So, why do you need an eye cream? The area around our eyes is the most delicate bit of skin on our entire body, so it needs some extra attention. Look for a formula like the Inkey List’s Caffeine Eye Cream that’ll help to wake the skin up and make you look like you’ve had a solid eight hours of sleep. If dark circles and pigmentation is your nemesis, Clinique’s Even Better Eyes Dark Circle Corrector helps to brighten the eyes and features a cooling metal applicator that depuffs and soothes the skin.

STEP 4: HYDRATE WITH A MOISTURISER

Moisturiser is a must. Why? It helps to strengthen your skin barrier, keeping your complexion healthy and hydrated. And yes, every skin type can benefit from using moisturiser.

Struggling to find the perfect moisturiser for your skin type? For dull, tired skin, we recommend Kiehl’s Facial Fuel Energizing Moisturiser. Formulated with vitamin C, caffeine and chestnut extract, it revitalises the skin while hydrating. If your skin is blemish or acne-prone, try an oil-free formula, like Tom Ford’s Oil-Free Moisturizer For Men or Clinique’s Oil-Free Moisturiser, for a lightweight, mattifying finish. Stressed, irritated skin? Dr. Barbara Sturm’s Face Cream For Men helps to soothe irritation and protect the skin from harsh free radicals.

STEP 5: PROTECT WITH SPF

Should you wear sun cream every day? The answer is yes (a big yes). SPF has come a long way - gone are thick formulas that leave your skin pasty, now, we can enjoy endless SPF face creams and SPF-infused skincare products. So, you have no excuse not to include one in your grooming routine.

We’re big fans of Shiseido’s UV Protection Cream and La Mer’s UV Protecting Fluid – great for a holiday too. After an everyday SPF, that’s also ideal for oily skin? Kiehl’s Ultra-Light Daily UV Defense is the one. A lightweight, fast-absorbing formula that has an invisible finish on the skin – ideal for wearing under other products.

Always apply SPF in the morning after your moisturiser and keep it on you for on-the-go touch-ups throughout the day.
