THE BEST DRESSES FOR PARTY SEASON

Paragraph

WORDS: MARNI ROSE MCFALL Photographer: jane doe

Unrelenting energy. Big nights. Bigger looks. Indescribable style. Welcome to the biggest party of the year. It’s time to steal the show, the spotlight, the scene. How, you ask? With the hottest party dresses around, of course. It goes without saying that for the biggest party of the year, your dress needs to be the best. And that’s where we come in. Introducing: the next-level, festive party dresses we love (actually). From recently launched labels like Santa Brands and Norma Kamali to cult classics like Vivienne Westwood and David Koma, all the way to Dolce&Gabbana and Saint Laurent, these are the styles that to us, are perfect.

THE COLOUR-POP DRESS

Thought that the Christmas partywear palette was relegated to red, green and gold? You thought wrong. Introducing the big energy dresses that come dripping in dopamine. Look to Vivienne Westwood’s Sunday Dress to bring out your punk party-girl persona. In a vibrant shade of cobalt blue with a billowing skirt and Renaissance-coded corset, it’ll have the whole of London calling. Cult Gaia are sticking to the Y2K theme with a sequinned, hot pink maxi dress that would have even Paris Hilton saying, ‘that’s hot.’ Living for the red revival? Norma Kamali’s Strapless Fishtail Gown in pillar box red, hits the brief for one of AW23’s biggest trends.

THE SLIP DRESS

Channelling your inner ‘90s It girl this party season? A slip dress is the way to do it. The Sydney Maxi from the newly launched Santa Brands is our favourite way to do naked dressing this Christmas. In a delicious shade of peach nude, it’s crafted from rhinestones and is almost entirely sheer. Basically, it’s like Marilyn Monroe’s 1962 ‘Happy Birthday Mr President’ and Kate Moss’s 1993 naked dress had a lovechild. Looking for a more subtle take on the naked dressing trend? Look to Dolce&Gabbana and Saint Laurent’s borrowed-from-the-bedroom takes that cling to the body in all the right places. If you’re looking for a splash of colour, Acne Studios have decked out their ruffled slip dress in gradient green tones. Whatever way you’re doing it, these slip dresses are guaranteed to have you looking in the mirror saying: ‘I look quite pretty.’

THE ULTRA-MINI DRESS

Sometimes in life, less is more. Well, less fabric that is. Enter: the must-have mini dresses of the season that are so bold they could start a party in an empty room. David Koma’s mini is a key pick. Louder than a disco ball, it’s cut to a thigh-grazing hem with a tank-top neckline, slightly sheer fabric and it’s covered with shimmering silver crystals. A long-time advocate for high hemlines, Stella McCartney is staying true to form with a barely-there Barbie dress. Held together by a single shoulder strap – which is crafted from a crystal encrusted chain – it slinks down for an instantly eye-catching look. Vivienne Westwood, meanwhile, have taken things up a notch with their corseted dress. Ft. all over leopard print detailing, the corset keeps things tight while the flesh-coloured tone of the dress gives a new meaning to the term second skin. The finishing touch? A hem that cuts off at a scandalously short length.

THE LONG-SLEEVED DRESS

It’s no secret that form-fitting, second-skin styles are everywhere come party season. But the best kept secret about nailing this trend? Is the long-sleeved maxi dress. Covering you (almost) head to toe, these dresses hang close to skin, falling in the most flattering ways. Plus, they’re chic, sleek and relatively weather appropriate. Sound good? We thought so. Top of our wish list is Roberta Einer’s Midi Dress. Skin-tight, ft. cut-outs and covered in shimmering silver, it more than fits the festive party brief. True to form, Mugler have delivered a next-level pick with their Draped Mesh Dress, which is slightly sheer and falls all the way to the floor. Feeling it? Make like Marilyn with the Rabanne Rhinestone Maxi Dress. Now, get ready to rock around that Christmas tree.
