Feeling fatigued by the winter edit you’ve had on heavy rotation for the months on end? Not to worry. Copenhagen Fashion Week has just wrapped, and it brought with it a fresh batch of street style to inspire a fresh take on cold-weather dressing. From bonnets to artful layers, here’s how the Scandi fashion set is tackling the cold weather in style.

The Scandinavians can teach us many important things. One main takeaway? If the skies won’t bring blue, bring it yourself. Baby blue was all over the Copenhagen streets, both in the form of outerwear and smaller accessories that brought a sense of levity to otherwise serious cold-weather looks.

The easiest cure to seasonal depression is a healthy dose of whimsy, if the CPHFW headgear choices were anything to go by. Why go down the traditional route when there’s so many more fun options for keeping cosy? Bonnets, shawls and any material that pleasingly drapes were the preferred options du jour in the Danish capital.

t's time to let texture do the talking. The quickest way to inject an otherwise functional cold-weather look with a sense of playfulness is with novel, tactile fabrics. Shearling, suede, faux fur; they’re all ultra-insulating and look good enough to touch.

Headwear was really having a moment this year. Moving on from the more relaxed options mentioned above, there was a definite appreciation for hats with more structure seen outside the CPH shows. Paired with workwear, city-ready outerwear or evening looks; these are the hats for when you require warmth alongside a strong silhouette.

The perfect antidote to that reliable yet boring winter coat you’re now sick of the sight of? Getting creative with layers. Start with the outerwear that’s roomy enough to house knits, slim-fit jackets and more beneath it, then let your inspiration run wild. You’ll see your sense of personal style return to you in no time.

One final way to add a sense of warmth to even the dullest of days is to draw your colour palette from summer fruits. There was berry-purple a-plenty in attendance at CPHFW. However you decide to infuse it into your cold-weather looks; through accessorising, outerwear or otherwise, the hue will see you through the rest of the dark days ahead and have you fantasising about your next sunshine escape.
