2025 FESTIVAL TRENDS:

WHAT TO WEAR TO GLASTONBURY AND BEYOND

Gorpcore, best of British, football mad: model, creator and podcaster Danny Lomas shares the lowdown on festival style this summer.

WORDS: DANNY LOMAS

Festival style has always been one of those tricky, in-between challenges. You're caught in that awkward limbo of wanting to look effortlessly cool and put together, while simultaneously preparing yourself to part ways with your outfit the moment your tent decides to surrender to the elements—usually by night one—turning your tent into a murky swamp (Not that I’m speaking from personal experience or anything... okay, maybe just a little.)

Now that festival season is officially in full swing, our chronically online generation has no shortage of style inspiration to draw from. Whether it's the latest looks straight off the Spring/Summer 2025 runways or the eclectic, thrown-together cool of Glastonbury's before, there’s a lot to take in—and even more to try out. So, in the spirit of sartorial daydreaming, here’s a little breakdown of the menswear trends and standout pieces I’d love to be rocking this season - if FLANNELS were to kit out my festival wardrobe…

GORPCORE

We all know it by now, and let’s be honest - it’s not going anywhere anytime soon. I’m talking about gorpcore. If you winced at the mention of that term, I don’t blame you. The memes, the jokes, they're all valid. But hear me out - despite the clichés and overexposure, we might actually be in the most fascinating time in gorpcore’s evolution.

What started as a niche aesthetic rooted in practicality and outdoor functionality has transformed into a full-blown style movement, with fashion and utility continuing to blur in increasingly innovative ways. We’ve embraced the full ninja-tech fantasy; more zippers, straps, and hidden compartments than you can count. We’ve paid homage to vintage outdoors wear, resurrecting bold, blocky silhouettes and primary colours that hark back to retro ski jackets and ‘90s hiking gear.

And now, in 2025, we’ve found a great middle ground. One where wearable, functional design meets cutting-edge materials, sustainable innovation and forward-thinking silhouettes. Lightweight and packable designs for when you’re lugging your weeks wares seven miles to the campsite, breathable/showerproof/quick drying for whatever the heavens can throw at you, and stash pockets for whatever floats your goat.

1. WAX JACKETS

Kind of following on from gorpcore, but for the more traditional bunch (myself included) there’s nothing like a good wax jacket. Think Kate Moss, Alexa Chung, even the Gallagher brothers bringing a bit of Britpop swagger to rural gear. The wax jacket is the ultimate crossover piece - heritage-meets-modern. It’s surprisingly versatile too; many silhouettes work just as well thrown over a pair of shorts at a summer gig as they do layered with jeans and boots come autumn. With proper maintenance—an occasional re-waxing and some TLC—these jackets are built to last. We're talking decades, not just seasons. They age beautifully, developing a characterful patina, making each one a sort of wearable memory bank.

For those not quite ready to commit, Barbour and Oxfam have partnered with Glastonbury Festival to offer a rental scheme, letting you roadtest a wax jacket for the weekend. But honestly, there’s something special about owning your own; letting it travel with you, picking up stories along the way. So do yourself a favour: invest in one and start making your own memories from scratch.

Graphic Tees

I know they’ve been around forever, but there’s an art to it. I personally think it’s corny to wear a band tee to a festival, and that’s the hill I’ll die on. You’re either wearing a tee from a band that’s playing which makes you look like you’re writing fanfiction at your big age, or you’re wearing a band that’s not playing which screams pretentious. Logo tees are even worse - we know how much your shirt costs, and we know you’re gonna sulk when it’s ripped in a mosh pit.

For me, we’re taking it back to a style reminiscent of what you’d expect to find circa 2010. Fun easy graphics that set you apart when your friends have to ask someone to find you after wandering off.

BEST OF BRITISH

No one does festivals like the UK - take that as you will. Why not celebrate the beautiful British summertime by supporting our homegrown, free-range talent in the fashion world. From globally recognised powerhouses that have shaped the fashion world to emerging designers bringing fresh perspectives, embrace cool Britannia.

Think big, knitted jumpers for when the night rolls in, wellies, and a classic raincoat. The things your grandad would tell you to wear to a festival. Practical, nostalgic, and effortlessly cool.

FOOTBALL SHIRTS

Football shirts and festivals go hand in hand, we all know this. But we don’t need to see another ‘95 AC Milan, 2006 Liverpool shirt or really any England kits. We appreciate the irony, but since that time the young lad Alex got pulled up on stage in 2019 (I know, mental that that was six years ago) I don’t think it’ll be topped. You can, however, pick up an offering of football shirts from fashion brands. These aren’t just for show; some can still be great performance wear - sweat-wicking and quick drying for those back-to-back sessions and still looking slick in a sea of Beckhams and Bergkamps.

1. OASIS

I know what you’re thinking, and yes, I am also super stoked they’re back together. But this is going to be a tricky period of time for fashion… as a certain frontman once said, “You need to be yourself, you can’t be no one else.” My best advice would be to dress like someone Liam would go for a pint with, not like the man himself. Avoid looking like Kevin and Perry and look more like you’re in Happy Mondays and you’ll have a swell time - grandad collar linen shirts, light-wash denim and a trusty pair of trainers or desert boots.

Fine, you’ve twisted my arm; it’s inevitable that in this monumental reunion summer you’re going to have to dress like Liam at some point. But, whilst I hope you’ll skip the parka, John Lennon glasses and a bucket hat, I know you’re going to do it anyway…
