Fan of the classic cat-eye? It just got a makeover. It’s time to acquaint yourself with the kitten eye: the cleaner, cooler, more minimal way to do your eyeliner this season.
While the classic cat-eye will always be in vogue, there is something about the latest eyeliner trend that has us reaching into our makeup bags for our liquid liner again. Easier to execute, quicker to pull off in a rush and a lot less high maintenance, the 2021 kitten eye is gaining traction.
So how to pull it off? Think crisp, winged lines. A hit of slick black. And perfectly elongated eyes. Rather than beginning at your inner eye, start in the centre of your eye and use thin, short strokes to draw along the lash line outwards. At the end? Give a tiny flick.
Confident with your liner? Go for a liquid liner that will allow you to get that wet-look effect. Feeling nervous? Reach for black eyeshadow and a flat liner brush, which will help you still get that precision finish. Coat your brush in setting spray first, to help you control the product and really make it last. Prefer things less perfect, more smudged? Opt for a soft pencil and a brush to blend it out.

And if it all goes wrong? Use a little micellar water and a cotton bud to clean the edges and remove any (unintentional) smudges.
Feeding into our newfound appreciation for our eyes in our current mask-wearing, virtual meetings world, pair with dewy skin, a dusting of freckles, a flush of creamy blush and soft, fluffy brows. It’s like you didn’t make any effort at all…
