THE SHOES TO ADD TO YOUR ROTATION

Sliders, sneakers, mules and loafers: these are the shoes to invest in this spring.

Warmer weather (promise, it’s coming) calls for an update to your shoe situation. With boots taking a backseat, now’s the time to start adding lighter options to your rotation: think easy sliders, comfy mules and statement sneakers that’ll add an instant shot of colour to your looks.

From Bottega Veneta’s trending ‘Orbit Sneaker’ to Gucci’s latest iteration of the loafer – the ‘Millennial’ - these are the shoes to start adding to your footwear collection this spring.

THE EASY SLIDERS

It’s a truth universally acknowledged that a pair of sliders is a wardrobe must-have. A staple on the beach, by the pool and for nipping to the shops for that pint of milk on a Sunday morning, they’re a simple edition to your wardrobe that’ll make all the difference.

Our tip? Go for leather sliders that’ll work for multiple occasions: low-key (and practical) enough to slip on on the beach but smart enough you can wear them to the bar later on. Make them work even harder by pairing with sports socks out of season. Smooth.

THE LAIDBACK MULES

Feel like you need a shoe that’ll bridge that gap between sandal and loafer? Something that feels lighter, more spring-like, but still offers some coverage (aka, warmth) when it’s still a bit nippy? What you’re looking for is a pair of mules (or clogs, as some like to call them).

Balenciaga’s Eva Clog Slides come in a durable rubber, making them ideal for rainy days. Whilst Represent, Birkenstock and Dr. Martens have delivered suede designs that are better suited to sunnier days. Pair with everything from jeans to jorts and layer with socks or bare feet, depending on the mood (and the temperature).

THE CLASSIC LOAFER

Loafers have never been working harder than they are right now. The go-to shoe has become a wardrobe stalwart, working with everything from jeans and socks to tracksuits and more polished pieces. For a staple pair that’ll go with everything, Gucci’s ‘Millennial Loafer’, Bottega Veneta’s ‘Haddock Loafer’ and Duke and Dexter’s ‘Wilde Sketch II Penny Loafer’ are top of our wish list.

For something fancier, we’re into Saint Laurent’s ‘Saint Le Loafer’ and Prada’s ‘Mocassini Loafer’s’, which pair perfectly with suits and tailored trousers – made for the upcoming wedding season. For a real statement-making option, Burberry’s ‘Hackney Check Loafers’ are all you need to lift a look.

THE CHUNKY DERBY

Pretty good pals with the loafer, the derby can fill a specific void in your footwear collection. Ideal for occasions – think weddings, black-tie events, your next trip to the races – they give instant fancy. But this being FLANNELS, we like ours with a little twist.

Balenciaga always understands that assignment, and theirs come with an inventive triangular toe. Acne Studios’ have gone for a similar crumpled effect, while Prada and Givenchy have kept things a little more typical; smooth, super shiny and perfectly weighty.

THE STATEMENT TRAINERS

Trainers are always the building blocks of our footwear collection, but for SS24 it’s about aligning style and function. Designers like Bottega Veneta and Balenciaga have focused on the technicalities. Take Bottega Veneta’s ‘Orbit Sneaker’s for example; they feature cushioned footbeds, perforated tongues for breathability and rubber outsoles with graphic treads for grip.

It’s no surprise then that ‘sports trainers’ are also making their way into our day to day. Asics ‘Gel Nimbus 9’ have become a firm fixture with the fashion set, while New Balance have found themselves on Lyst’s highly acclaimed ‘Hottest Brands Index’ this season.
