THE PARTY EDIT:

STATEMENT SHOES TO TAKE THE BINS OUT IN

These are the night-time beauties we can't get enough of.

WORDS: MARNI ROSE MCFALL

This Christmas, we’re making statements all day long. Even when we’re taking out the bins. Enter: statement shoes to take the bins out in. Yes, you read that right. For Christmas 23, we’re entering territory that has never before been explored. With an edit of ten must-buy statement shoes to take out the bins in. From Prada and Loewe to the new drop of Ugg x Telfar and cult classics from Moncler, taking out the trash has never looked better.

The thing is, Christmas is all about excess. The glamour, the parties, the decorations. The big nights out, the indulgent meals, the massive gifts and the celebrations. Quite simply, it’s just about more. And nowhere is that sentiment clearer, than with the clothes. So when you think about it, wearing hugely OTT statement shoes to take your bins out, is just common sense. There’s not a moment to lose, and you won’t catch us slipping with our style. We’re making statements every single day, with every single fit. It’s time to pair your bin bag with your Loewe heels. Welcome to the ultimate edit of shoes to take the bins out in.

1. THE BOOTS WITH THE FEATHERS

Once upon a time, there was a Miracle on 34th Street. Then, there were these Valentino Garavani boots. The term ‘statement’ is well, an understatement. In a classic combat boot silhouette, these boots come in a slick, glossy black leather and feature Valentino Garavani’s signature stud detailing. But the part that’s made us believe in Christmas magic? The massive, beyond OTT, feather detailing. Jet-black feathers, so intense they’d shock even Wednesday Addams, sprout up from the top of the boot for an instantly eye-catching effect. It’s Christmas girls, it’s time to go big (and it doesn’t get bigger than this).

2. THE BALLET PUMPS WITH THE FLOWERS

If you were to take a big fat fashion quiz of the year, you’d be reminded that two of 2023’s defining trends were a) the corsage and b) the ballet pump. Well, for Christmas 23, Prada have performed a miracle that would delight even Ebeneezer Scrooge and combined the two. Their Ballerina Pumps come in a – naturally very chic – shade of snow white and are finished with 3D-flower detailing. The finishing touch? The signature brand name, printed to the side. God bless us, everyone.

3. THE CLOGS IN BRIGHT RED

It’s the colour of the season and this is how to wear it. Big, bold reds are always hot topic at Christmas (read: Santa Claus’s wardrobe and Rudolph’s nose), but after they dominated the AW23 runways, we’ve got a renewed interest in the hard-hitting hue. And Loewe have delivered the ultimate big red shoe. In a hit of ruby with a chunky heel, these clogs are ready to slip on at any moment meaning they’re a) actually perfect for taking the bins out and b) super convenient for last-minute motives. Could you ask for anything more on your Christmas wish list?

4. THE SNEAKERS THAT COME IN A BAG

Worried about getting bin juice on your new kicks? Don’t worry, Vivienne Westwood have you covered with the solution that nobody saw coming. Enter: the Romper Bag Sneaker. Sat on a thick, chunky sole, with logo detailing all over, the Romper Bag Sneakers are all bagged up. A drawstring bag starts at the sole of the shoe and reaches up to the top, giving the affect that the shoes are well, in a bag. You’ll be, quite literally, covered from any unfortunate splashes, and you’ll be sure to turn some heads.

5.THE SNOWBOOTS THAT ARE LITERALLY MASSIVE

We’re dreaming of a white Christmas… just so we can wear these Moncler Boots. The Trailgrip Apres Snow Boots take the term larger than life to new extremes. Covered with padding so puffy it could see you through a blizzard, (trust us, you can make like Will Ferrell in Elf in these) these quilted boots sit on a Megagrip treaded sole in bright red. Basically, they’re the ultimate combination of high fashion and high performance. Plus, they’ll see you well into ski season.

6.

THE SLIPPERS THAT ARE COVERED IN LOGOS

Come Christmas morning, these are the only shoe we’ll wear. Fresh from the newly launched Dolce&Gabbana Casa range (PSST: this is part of our brand-new FLANNELS Home offering), the Jacquard Slippers are the ultimate festive footwear pick. Why, you ask? Well, in a – very appropriate – pop of scarlet, these slippers wouldn’t look out of place on Mr and Mrs Claus, and they’re so incredibly comfortable and cosy, we guarantee you’ll be wearing them all through the festive season. The piece de resistance – if you still needed one – is that they’re finished with the signature D&G logo. Oh, we wish it could be Christmas, every day.

7. THE BOOTS FROM THE COLLAB OF THE SEASON

Teamwork makes the dream work. Don’t believe us? Just look at the UGG x Telfar collab. One of the most hyped efforts in the business, New York label Telfar – who have been commanding sell-out collections and infinite waitlists since they were founded in 2005 – and Australian icons UGG have joined forces to give us the most iconic collab of the season. And we cannot get enough of the boots. The boots. In a delicious shade of pumpkin orange, the boots bring together UGG’s classic shearling lining with Telfar’s cult logo. PSA: don’t wait around to shop these. They’ll sell out quicker than the Turbo Man action figure that Arnold Schwarzenegger wanted in Jingle All The Way.

8. THE HEELS THAT COME IN GOLD

The star, the baubles, the tinsel, the five rings and, a pair of Bottega Veneta Rocket Mules. Just some Christmas classics that come in gold. Feeding into our newfound love for all things metallic, Bottega Veneta have taken party shoes to a new level and dunked their heeled mules in all-over, shimmering gold. With a backless, slip-on construction (useful for any pending, bin-related antics), these mules sit on a sculpted heel that starts off skinny and ends up thick. Feeling it? Go all in on heavy-metal hitters and pair with iridescent party pieces in shimmering silver and gold.

9. THE HEELS THAT HAVE A BRUSH AS A HEEL

The fun-heels trend you’ve seen everywhere? It’s all thanks to Loewe. The Spanish fashion powerhouse decided to redefine what constituted a ‘heel’ back in 2022, and since, they’ve sat their shoes on everything from bars of soap to bottles of nail polish. For Christmas 23? There’s a makeup brush where your high heel used to be. The Petal Brush-Heel Leather Sandals come in sleek and chic black with a heeled inspired by a puffy brown makeup brush. The handle of said makeup brush is covered in glittering gemstones. Shoes want to party too.

10. THE BOOTS THAT ARE PINK AND COVERED IN GLITTER

Frosty The Snowman walked so these Moon Boots could run. It may have been the summer of Barbie, but our love for all things pink has not waned into winter. Enter: the Moon Boot. Inspired by the O.G. moon landing, Moon Boots riff off high-tech astronaut gear - so they are more than bin-proof. And this pair, in shimmering pink glitter with colour-pop, candy cane red laces and the brand’s signature oversized design, are one of the biggest vibes around. The perfect post-party chaser, they’re cosy enough to see you through the morning after and loud enough to get you in the mood to do it all over again.
