As a content creator, Northman shares her outfits with her 30 thousand plus followers on Instagram. Said outfits are often comprised of ultra-viral, buzzy fashion pieces – think the Prada tank top, JW Anderson’s Run Hany Bumper Bag and Miu Miu’s ultra mini skirt. As a writer, Northman goes from reporting on trends to dissecting them (read: Northman on Miu Miu and fashion’s newfound obsession with sport for yours truly). And as a Gen-Z fashion muse, she has carved out a space, and following all her own, thanks for her authentic approach to the world of fashion and social media. No matter what she has to say, when Tora’s talking, we’re all ears.
While she’s away on a skiing holiday, Tora Northman takes us on a day in her life . From her biggest role models in life to what exercise means to her and how she describes her style, it’s time to get to know Tora Northman a little better.

The first thing I do when I wake up is…
Check my phone. There’s usually a couple of messages that need my attention or some important emails. But, as I’m out of office this week, I just hit the snooze button a few times before I eventually get up and splash some cold water in my face.
Every single day is different.
I’m really lucky to have a job that allows me to meet inspiring people and attend events. I get to experience new things all the time and that really motivates me.
My biggest role models are my mum and dad.
My mum is a real fashion girl, and we share clothes more than I’d like to admit (I mainly steal hers, though). My dad has always been one of my biggest supporters as well, and he’s always told me to “Take no shit,” which I have now tattooed on my arm in Swedish. They’ll always be my biggest role models, no matter how old I get.
The fact most surprises people about me is…
That I’m Swedish. I grew up all around the world, including Greece, Sweden, Indonesia, Hong Kong and now the UK so the weird American accent always throws people off.

I’m far from a morning person.
But when I’m away skiing it is always an early wakeup. I’m talking 7:30 AM alarm, roll out of bed and get ready.
My routine usually starts with…
A quick face wash, followed by two moisturisers and obviously a generous layer of SPF+. Then I need a cup of black coffee to really get my day started, alongside some breakfast. I’m not picky, I’ll honestly eat anything.
I ski in the morning and daytime.
And ideally as much as possible… I love the exercise that skiing gives, especially on day two or three when you can really start to feel it in your legs. My kit always includes a handful of thermals, this time around I’ve been wearing my Perfect Moment “Ski” top a lot and finishing off the look with either a ski suit like my Fusalp piece, or a nice warm jacket and salopettes – my favourite ones are from Goldbergh because you can detach the dungarees and turn them into regular pants. Lastly, I always wear a helmet and some cool goggles. This trip, the Gucci monogram ski goggles have been the talk of the town.
I’m a pop girlie through and through.
My workout playlist consists of ‘90s and ‘00s bangers. Like “Toxic” by Britney Spears, “Born This Way” by Lady Gaga and “Survivor by Destiny’s Child.” Some other favourites are “Believe” by Cher, “Murder on the Dance floor” by Sophie Ellis-Bextor, and “No Scrubs” by TLC. Basically anything you can sing along too.
My food intake while skiing has been heavenly…
There’s nothing quite like entering a warm restaurant after a few hours of skiing and ordering a nice hot meal. For me, fries is a real go-to on the slopes, as well as soup, burgers, pizza and anything that will fill me up for the next few hours. And I’ll have at least one hot chocolate per day. I also snack on granola bars and sweets throughout the day, and if you saw tdhe state of my bag, you’d be horrified by the amount of Maoam wrappers.

I’ve always loved sports.
Exercise for me just means moving my body and having fun. It doesn’t have to be intense. I love playing football and I also do gymnastics every now and then.
EXERCISE FOR ME JUST MEANS MOVING MY BODY AND HAVING FUN
Skiing is the perfect exercise for me…
It is so much fun and you almost forget that you’re working out when you’re surrounded by amazing views and your best friends.
I feel such a big difference in energy level after working out.
No matter how hard a workout is, I know I will always feel better after. I really struggled to exercise throughout lockdown, and now I’m slowly getting back into it through various sports and activities. But I’m still in the process of truly enjoying going for a long run or hitting the gym.
Work is the bulk of my creativity.
I work as Head of TikTok at Highsnobiety which means I spend plenty of time on the platform, and it has become a major outlet of creativity as a result. I also love dressing up and shooting my outfits, and a lot of them are shared on Instagram.

I have my best ideas when I’m allowed to be myself.
I have a lot of ideas, honestly too many ideas sometimes. I think it’s so important to express them all – both good and bad – to find the true gems. When I’m truly myself, that’s when my brain starts to race and the best ideas are generated, and when someone is truly listening, that’s when we hit the gold.
After exercise I recover with…
A quick stretch, a big glass of water and a little snack. I also always bring a layer or two, so that I don’t get cold after exercising. When skiing, my recovery also includes a visit to the après ski, which definitely helps. A hot shower is also key for me, which allows my muscles to relax after a long day before I go to bed. I still wake up feeling incredibly sore because skiing exercises all the muscles you never normally use.
My style is very much what I feel like wearing on the day.
it always changes. I don’t like to limit myself to a certain aesthetic, I prefer to experiment and mix and match old with new. I follow a few trends, but in general I just follow my gut – if I like something, I’ll wear it. I used to always value style over comfort, but recently they’ve gone hand-in-hand. The only real difference between a weekday and weekend look for me is a heeled boot, and usually much better makeup and hair looks.
I ONLY GO FOR PIECES THAT ARE TRUE TO MYSELF – NO PRETENDING
My style is inspired by…
Instagram, Pinterest and TikTok, like everyone else. but looking through my mum’s closet, browsing on for cool vintage pieces, and finding hidden gems on sale is where I really get inspiration. I know I can always style a piece I like somehow, so I have a lot of fun imagining cool looks and putting them together in my head. I’m so heavily involved in pop culture and trends that I sometimes feel that my style is the opposite of that.
My style is the same at work.
I wear what I want to the office and when creating content, I only go for pieces that are true to myself – no pretending.

A typical day usually consists of…
A couple hours on TikTok, browsing for interesting content, new trends, and inspiring creators. Since I also do content creation for my own platforms on the side, it is inspiring both for myself as well as for my 9 to 5, which I love.
The best thing about my work is…
That every single day is different, and that I get to meet a lot of cool and inspiring people. The fashion industry is known for being quite cut-throat and intense, but I’d say it is almost the opposite at times. I’m having a lot of fun and I’ve met some great people along the way and getting to spend time with them and call it work is a real treat.
THE FASHION INDUSTRY IS KNOWN FOR BEING QUITE CUT-THROAT AND INTENSE, BUT I’D SAY IT IS ALMOST THE OPPOSITE AT TIMES
This year I really want to work on myself and stepping out of my comfort zone.
I’ve felt quite insecure when posting on social media for some reason, and I’m working on letting go of any anxiety and letting go of fear. No one cares at the end of the day, so I just need to take the leap and start posting everything and anything I want without really thinking about it that much.
Moving to London is my biggest achievement.
I moved when I was 20 from Hong Kong, which is where I grew up, without knowing anyone. I’d only visited London once or twice before, so deciding to move by myself was a little crazy. But I’m so happy I did it. I’m proud of myself for it and couldn’t be happier with the decision – it has brought me so many amazing people and experiences that I’m truly grateful for every day.
A typical evening looks like…
A walk to the park with my Shiba inu and a movie on the sofa with my boyfriend. I really enjoy winding down at home and being in my own space, so evenings are sacred to me. And I love cooking and experimenting with recipes has become a new creative outlet for me over the past year, so we usually have a homecooked meal.
My signature dish is…
I lowkey have a few. But mushroom risotto with plenty of garlic and parmesan, topped with rucola and pine nuts is a real go-to. It always gets plenty of praise, even from people who claim they don’t like mushrooms (grow up, mushrooms are delicious).

I’m pretty bad at switching off…
But I try to turn off work-related notifications and leave my emails unread until the morning. I usually let Netflix do most of the work to be honest.
The last book I read is…
The Chiffon Trenches by André Leon Talley. It was such an interesting read. Next on my list is The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo, which my sister has been trying to get me to read for over a year now, so I figured it is about time.
I listen to a lot of Swedish podcasts.
Mainly to keep up with the language and the slang. But my friend Estefania does this amazing podcast with Spotify called Deathbed Confessions, which is a must for anyone who loves true crime. I also listen to Call Her Daddy, TED Talks and everything in between.
Right now I’m binge watching…
The Handmaid’s Tale. I’m aware I’m very late on this one but I can’t stop watching! And Bling Empire New York.
My daily mantra is…
Like my dad says, take no shit.
