One thing you’ll never regret? A new pair of ankle boots. And this season we’re rethinking the wardrobe staple. We’re talking big logo details, fresh silhouettes and yes, chunky soles. Valentino Garavani’s V Logo Rainboots tick all the boxes. Chic, practical and fun, the mid-rise and gold hardware will make you stand out this season. Likewise, Bottega Veneta is serving up a big mood for autumn. The Fireman Ankle Boot is made from biodegradable rubber woven in the label’s iconic intrecciato pattern. Status-symbol footwear with a conscience. Finally, we’re obsessed with Maison Margiela's Tabi Ankle Boots and Gucci's Sylke Boot, which perfectly merges loafer and boot. Sign us up.

It shoes for It girls. Make an entrance in this season’s most-wanted loafers. Not for shy and retiring types, we’re talking flashy hardware, lug soles and status logos. Get to know the next-level loafer with Miu Miu’s studded pair. A couple of real showstoppers, old meets new with a masculine silhouette and all-over silver studs. Alternatively, Prada has the answer to your loafer prayers. The cult triangle logo Chocolate loafers have firmly established their place in the fashion hall of fame. This season, they get an upgrade with a double-welted sole amping up the volume. And no self-respecting fashion person can talk about loafers without a nod to Gucci. Fresh off the runway, the Horsebit Platform Loafers in the iconic GG Supreme canvas are sure to turn heads.

THE GROWN-UP KNEE-HIGH BOOTS

Giddy up. From western boots to riding boots, the knee-high has seriously evolved this season. In the western corner, the whole ‘cowgirl’ vibe has been toned down. This is old-school Americana reinvented for the modern girl about town. Think avant-garde influences, elegant details and grown-up silhouettes. Vivienne Westwood’s Gaia boot is a case in point. A chunkier cone heel, slouchy shape and washed leather finish let everyone know – this ain’t your first rodeo. Need to ramp it up? Look to Saint Laurent, Christian Louboutin and Gucci for patent leather and stiletto heels – made for the upcoming party season.
Smell that? It’s the smell of fun. Party season is fast approaching. Cue one of our favourite winter footwear trends. Party mules. No surprises here – Prada is killing it. These are evening shoes that go the extra mile. Shoes you could do the walk of shame in with pride. Think glamorous grunge-inspired style, leopard print, green satin. Diamante in all the wrong (right) places. Like an autumnal footwear extension of Brat summer. Pointed toes and kitten heels are a big vibe. A little bit sultry, a little bit naughty. Look to Prada for square-toe leopard print mules and colourful satin numbers that will take you from day to night. Alternatively, Balenciaga have taken full advantage of the rhinestone’s sparkling capabilities with their crystal-encrusted Knife mules. Like disco balls for your feet. Now, get on the dance floor.

In possession of two left feet? Nobody cares. The cute little ballet shoe made a comeback last season and isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. Don’t mistake its daintiness for weakness. These shoes have BSE (Big Shoe Energy). Pair with everything from jeans and boxy blazers or bombers to party dresses and micro minis with tights or knee-high socks. Look to Christian Louboutin’s Mamastrapitinas for on-trend mesh and diamante. Sweet, feminine and a little bit extra, Miu Miu and Valentino Garavani have served up similarly sparking ballet flats in time for party season. Shoes to make a song and dance about. Ballet, but make it fashion.
