THE PARTYWEAR TRENDS OF THE SEASON

Paragraph

WORDS: MARNI ROSE MCFALL Photographer: jane doe

Get ready… for the biggest night out the year. Because at FLANNELS, we are the party. A party of next-level looks, indescribable energy and the hottest brands. This is party season, but not like you know it. And as we get ready for the biggest party of the year, we’re ticking off that all important list… The list of the hottest partywear trends of the season that is. From heavy-metal hitters to party-proof co-ords and second-skin mini dresses, these are the biggest partywear trends for Christmas ’23. Fresh from the biggest brands in the biz, from Acne Studios and Off-White to Tom Ford and Vivienne Westwood. Oh my! These are the ultimate partywear trends of the season.

THE PARTY PRINTED CO-ORD

Acne Studios Co-ord

What’s white, brown and Acne Studios all over? This cow-print co-ord. Taking an unconventional print and making it their own (it is Acne after all) they’ve put a unique spin on proceedings with this cow-print set that comprises of a trench coat, asymmetric mini skirt and ruched top, all in a very festive velvet fabrication. Pair with black ankle boots and compact black shoulder bag from Miu Miu. How does that Doja Cat song go?

THE PARTY BAG

The coveted status of plus one to the party can be hard to earn. But trust us, these going-out bags are worthy of the spot. Rabanne’s heavy-metal-hitter party bags are king, and this glimmering gold iteration is a must, while Valentino Garavani’s sequinned mini is the very definition of ‘disco-bag’. Gucci’s re-edition Horsebit bag has been sending the fashion set into a frenzy this past year, and this sleek silver iteration is one of the hottest styles on the market right now. As for Magda Butrym? They’ve taken the corset trend to the next level with this 3D floral mini bag; a trend that’s set to continue into SS24.

THE SILVER DRESS

AW23 is the season of the heavy-metal hitter. Big energy, metallic styles that go in on scene-stealing appeal. Don’t believe us? Enter: the silver dress. Veritable fashion caviar, it combines a) one of the biggest trends of the season with b) a guarantee that all eyes in the party will be on you. As they should. The way to do it? Roberta Einer’s cut-out silver midi dress, paired with Rabanne’s Sparkling Nano Bag, Givenchy’s Cube Heels and their chunky Lock Necklace. It’s a recipe for a flawless fit.

THE SECOND-SKIN MINI DRESS

Playing into our everlasting love of all things ‘90s and ‘00s, our love for form-fitting, second skin pieces is going absolutely nowhere. In fact, it’s becoming one of the key trends for party season… The way to do it, you ask? It’s this Off-White Mini Dress. In an ice cold hit of cobalt blue, it’s cut close to the body with a cold-weather friendly turtleneck. Pair with too-high heels, like the Lollipop Sandals, a little ice, by way of the Arrow Earrings and a party-proof shoulder bag.

THE OTHERWORLDLY SILVER EYESHADOW

Shimmering, metallic, silver eyes. Ultra-glossed lips. A dusting of space glitter, complete with jewels and stars. Your key makeup look for the 2023 party season? Alien-superstar-core eyes. Influenced, naturally, by Beyoncé (is there anything that isn’t influenced by Beyoncé?) and her Renaissance world tour, it’s unsurprising that this makeup look has Instagram, TikTok and Pinterest in a chokehold. From MAC’s Cosmetic Glitter to Pat McGrath Lab’s Divine Glow Highlighter and Patrick Ta’s Major Volume Plumping Lip Gloss, these are the products you need in your makeup bag to nail the trend. You can thank us later.

THE COLOUR-POP CORSET DRESS

One of the year’s key trends? All things ultra-loud. As 2023, has taken hold, our appreciation for statement-making style has taken on a life of its own. Part of the appeal? Big pops of colour. And as party season approaches, our appetite for retina searing brights is stronger than ever. Top of our list right now? Big, bold, blues. And we’re turning to Vivienne Westwood to answer the brief. The Sunday Dress comes in a vivid shade of azure blue and is cut with statement corsetry, making it one of our favourite party dresses of the season. Finish with a pair of block, black knee-highs and get your greens in with the Yasmine Mini Bag in a juicy hit of jade.

THE DANCING SHOES

It’s time to get on your dancing shoes. While party season is much lauded for its ability to bring family and friends together, there’s another accolade we don’t make nearly enough fuss about: the excuse to buy a new pair of going-out, party heels. The key styles this season? Miu Miu’s Decollette mini heels – which you might recognise from being all over your IG feed. For all-out party energy, look to Tom Ford’s silver chain sandals and Jimmy Choo’s heels, complete with golden metal flowers. And for a touch of colour? Loewe’s blue studded Petal Mules are the way to go.

THE PINK PARTY SUIT

For 2023, we’re doing tailoring a little differently. And Tom Ford has delivered. Four words: colour-pop, satin, suit. Genius. Underneath? The standout piece of 23, a tiny little bralette. Nailing the underwear-as-outerwear, new gen tailoring and the colour of the year – pink - in one easy move? Tom Ford knows how to party. Add statement boots in the shape of the Hair Ankle Boots and an LBB (aka, little black bag) by way of the Pillow Clutch.
