SUMMER TRENDS EDIT:

THESE ARE THE SHOES TO ADD TO YOUR BASKET

Low-profile sneakers, chunky wedges, jelly flats: these are the shoes you need this season.

WORDS: HANNAH DUNN, PHOTOGRAPHY: MATT BRANN

Summer is officially here, which means it’s time to give your shoe collection a much-needed refresh. Think chunky wedges, low-profile sneakers and party-ready heels that look and feel good.

From Miu Miu’s chunky biker boots that’ll be ideal for your next festival to wedding guest-ready heels c/o Prada and Gucci that’ll see you through the summer season, these are the shoes to invest in for summer and beyond.

Chloe Graffiti Wedges

1. SKY-HIGH WEDGES

Just when you think wedges have run their course, along comes a fresh new crop to change your mind. Leg-lengthening, surprisingly comfortable and with the added advantage that they don’t sink into the grass at summer events (think weddings, the races, a trip to the polo…) and you have yourself a firm contender for the ideal pair of summer occasion shoes. Top of our list this year? Chloe’s graffiti-adorned wedges, Gucci’s Horsebit Wedge Sandals that feature the brand’s signature GG, and Saint Laurent’s raffia espadrille-style iterations. If you prefer a slip-on style, go for Jimmy Choo’s Leda Wedge or Coach’s Platform Flip Flops which can easily be dressed up or down.

Gucci GG Meg Leather Sliders

2. SMART SLIP ONS

If you prefer your sandals on the smarter side, then you’ll want to invest in a pair of leather sliders that can elevate your looks without compromising on your comfort. Gucci’s GG Meg Leather Sliders tick all the boxes thanks to an embossed leather, delicate GG to the front and mini heel. Dolce&Gabbana have delivered a matt black pair complete with cut-out D&G to the top. If you prefer a softer shade to black, Chloe’s Flower Sandals come in a chestnut brown and off white that are perfect for the warmer weather and lighter looks.

Jimmy Choo Jimmy the Jelly Ballet Flats

3. JELLY SHOE DREAMS

Indulge your inner child this summer with a pair of grown-up jelly shoes. Chloe’s have been all over our Instagram feeds since their SS25 show last year. Complete with a thong toe, ankle strap and tiny kitten heel, they’ve turned a childhood love into an adult-appropriate offering. Hot on their heels are Jimmy Choo’s Jimmy the Jelly ballet flats, which feature cut-outs and crystals, and Tory Burch’s slip-on caged jelly mules. Our five-year-old selves would be ecstatic.

4. PARTY-READY HEELS

When it comes to finding the perfect wedding guest shoe, the easiest route is to look for fun, statement heels that will add a touch of interest to your wedding outfit. Gucci’s Horsebit Sandals in a solid gold, complete with a chunky, block heel, will pair with just about everything. While Valentino Gravani combine pink and gold for the ultimate party shoe. If it’s a pop of solid colour you’re looking for, Ferragamo’s Gylla 70 Slingbacks come in a high-shine patent, and Prada’s Leather Metal Pumps mix silver hardware with a metallic green.

Miu Miu Leather Biker Boots

5. BIG BOOT ENERGY

Boots, for summer? Well, it actually is quite groundbreaking. But for the second year running a pair of big chunky boots are high on our summer wish list. Worn to toughen up otherwise feminine pieces – think white dresses and boho-inspired skirts – and with everything from Bermuda shorts to football shorts, they’ve become a firm fixture in our summer looks. And, with festival season on the horizon, they might just be your best investment. The masters? Miu Miu, who keep bringing back bestseller after bestseller.

Miu Miu Clogs

6. TURNING CLOGS

Clogs? They’re like marmite. But love them or hate them, they’re here to stay. And for SS25, they’re dominating our Instagram feeds. Miu Miu has created an easy-to-wear pair that feature a small heel and fresh white strap. Chloe have gone the other way, creating an ultra-high platform style clog that will demand careful attention. If you prefer something more slipper like, Burberry and Balenciaga have just the ones for you. Delivered in soft suede, you’ll be able to wear them all year long – just add thick socks in the winter and wear barefoot in the summer.

Miu Miu Plume Suede Trainers

7. KEEP A LOW PROFILE

Low-profile trainers are the sneaker of the season. Delivered in retro, nostalgic hues – think off whites and reds – wear them with chunky sports socks and grab your tennis racket. Of course, Miu Miu has created two of the most wanted styles of the season in the shape of their Plume Suede Trainers and Nylon Trainers, while their sister brand has designed the Prada Spin Trainer, a white ‘90s-inspired style that Princess Di would have donned in a second. Burberry’s Matrix Sneakers come in a similar shape, while Maison Margiela’s Sprinters come in a vivid shade of acid green nylon with brown detailing. Over at adidas Originals, Wales Bonner’s latest collection offers a take in the form of the Karintha Lo Shoes, a pair of low-profile trainers finished off in an earthy suede.

Prada Crisscross Raffia Slides

8. IT’S ALL RAFFIA

Raffia is a firm fixture in our summer wardrobes and for SS25 it’s coming in all shapes and sizes. From raffia bags to headbands, we’re getting our fix in a multitude of ways. But our favourite? In shoe form. Prada has offered not one but two ways to wear a raffia shoe this season. First up, the Crisscross Raffia Slides, the perfect beach day slider. Second, the Raffia Ballerina, the ideal summer city shoe. Fendi has gone for a flatform style, while Valentino Garavani have adorned theirs with cute cherries.
