SS27:
From cherry-lacquered pouts and electric mono lids to Victorian-inspired braids and whisper-light skin, the Spring/Summer 2027 shows proved that warm-weather beauty is shedding its predictable coat in favour of uncompromising, tactile expression. These are the eight looks set to define the season ahead.
THE STATEMENT RED LIP
If there was one undeniable protagonist across the four global fashion capitals this season, it was the unapologetic crimson lip. Far from a standard classic red, artists explored every texture and iteration imaginable - from velvet mattes to high-gloss oxbloods - proving that a bold lip remains the ultimate face-shifter.
At Annie’s Ibiza, makeup artist Becky Moore created a striking crimson lip paired with plush, berry-flushed cheeks using NARS. Over in Paris at Chanel, lead makeup artist Lucia Pieroni opted for a classic yet electric scarlet red lip that instantly anchored the collection's ethereal silhouettes. Meanwhile, at Victoria Beckham, lead makeup artist Lucia Pica debuted the house's vibrant new range of red lipsticks, dressing models' pouts in rich, full-coverage pigment that felt modern, sleek and supremely effortless.
At Lanvin, lead artist Diane Kendal leaned into classic sophistication with saturated, velvety reds that elevated minimal complexions. For those seeking a subversive edge, Thomas de Kluyver delivered a dual-toned masterclass at Dries van Noten, painting two contrasting red shades across top and bottom lips. At Elisabetta Franchi, makeup artist Chiara Guizzetti introduced an innovative twist on classic evening glamour by layering fine glitter strictly through the centre of a bold red mouth to catch the light with every word.
The drama deepened at Gucci, where lead makeup artist Sam Visser crafted precision-cut, high-shine oxblood lips that practically dripped luxury. Offsetting all the gloss, Pat McGrath at Dolce & Gabbana delivered velvety, ultra-matte iconic reds that felt statuesque and refined. To translate the look into everyday life, focus on crisp, clean edges using a matching lip liner before pressing your chosen finish straight onto the lip.
SPECKS OF SHIMMER
Moving away from all-over dazzle, SS27 ushered in a far more tactile, hand-applied approach to sparkle. This season, shimmer was treated like bespoke embroidery - delicate, intentional and applied with surgical precision to accentuate the natural architecture of the face.
At Toga, hand-applied metallic detailing transformed ears into sculpted, shimmering jewelry pieces. Wanting a look that easily translates for real life? Try dusting a generous dusting of fine biodegradable glitter right after cream blush application or across the eyelid with a glossy lacquered base to hold the flecks down.
At Chopova Lowena, makeup artist Lauren Reynolds hand-painted individual lashes to resemble delicate feathers, giving eyes an artisanal, fluttery quality.
Mugler took lash artistry even further, with lead makeup artist Karin Westerlund custom-tailoring dramatic, razor-sharp lash extensions that added immediate architectural tension to the face. Over at Cecilie Bahnsen, lead artist Mel Arter washed romantic, finely milled glitter across models' lips for a fairytale finish. Meanwhile, Patrick Glatthaar at Blumarine opted for high-octane Y2K glamour, dusting liquid-like shimmer across the eyelids that caught the runway strobes like water. Recreating the trend off-duty comes down to restraint: choose one focal point - be it an eyelid, a brow bone, or the centre of your pout - and apply your shimmer with a light, tap-and-go finger movement.
ONE AND DONE
For those who prefer their morning routine understated yet undeniably polished, the 'One and Done' shadow movement offers maximum reward for minimal effort. The concept is wonderfully uncomplicated: a single, seamless wash of neutral color swept across the entire lid to instantly lift, frame and brighten the gaze.
At Paul Costelloe, models wore a soft, luminous wash of Laura Mercier beige shadow across the lids, engineered with a subtle shimmer to catch light and awaken tired eyes in a single stroke. Lead makeup artist Hiromi Ueda took a slightly moodier approach at Giorgio Armani, selecting darker, cooler neutrals to impart an air of quiet stoicism and polished strength that mirrored the sharp tailoring.
At Carolina Herrera, the approach was pure sun-soaked elegance: a seamless dusting of fine gold shimmer applied over the eyelids. The tone complemented models' diverse skin tones effortlessly, requiring zero complex blending or multi-palette gymnastics. The genius of this look lies in its sheer simplicity. All you need is a single, blendable cream or powder shadow applied from the lash line up to the crease using a fluffy blending brush - or simply your ring finger - to achieve that quiet, editorial refinement in seconds.
FAUX FRINGES & SLEEK EDGES
Hair took a graphic turn this season, with stylists using sleek, faux-fringe pieces and glassy surfaces to frame the face with architectural sharpness. It’s an approach that delivers high impact without committing to a permanent haircut.
At Toga, hairstylists paired immaculate haircare with faux fringe attachments, creating hyper-sleek styles that possessed an unexpected, punk-adjacent edge. The look was about subverting polished hair with razor-sharp, abrupt cuts that sat to the side of the forehead.
At Louis Vuitton, lead hairstylist Duffy elevated the fringe concept into something truly celestial, weaving shimmering, light-reflecting threads and gloss through full bangs that moved like liquid silk under the runway lights. The takeaway here is all about experimenting with temporary commitment and glassy textures. A sleek faux clip-in fringe paired with a high-shine hair oil or smoothing serum allows you to dramatically transform your silhouette for an evening before returning to your natural texture the next morning.
THE BEACHY CUT
The effortless wave continues its reign as fashion’s favorite haircut. At Isabel Marant, hair legend Damien Boissinot showcased the ultimate effortless iteration. Hair was styled with natural, piecey wave patterns and lived-in volume, looking as though models had simply air-dried their hair after an ocean dip before walking straight onto the runway. The finish was soft, cool and totally unforced.
Over at Paul Costelloe, the waved bobs were given a subtly fuller shape that retained plenty of natural movement through to the ends. To style it at home, ditch the straightening iron and lean into texturising salt sprays and lightweight mousse. Scrunch the product into damp hair, air-dry or diffuse on low heat, and finish with a bend-enhancing wand through select mid-lengths for that coveted, off-duty model texture.
SOLO SHADE
Countering the quiet neutral shadows of the season, a vibrant spectrum of single-tone graphic eyes dominated the runways. Electric greens, sunny yellows and icy lilac washes were painted across the lids with graphic intent.
At Aaron Esh, makeup artist Mel Arter made a case for pure club-kid nostalgia, washing neon green pigment across the lids in an uncompromising, high-impact block of color. Lucia Pieroni pushed the shade even further at Givenchy, crafting thick, glossy cat eyes in a lacquer-like emerald green that felt sharp, modern and fiercely editorial.
At Valentino, lead makeup artist Yadim introduced a striking sky-blue graphic line across the eyelid that gave a fresh, modern nod to '60s Futurism. Meanwhile, Diane Kendal selected a delicate yet bold mono-lilac wash for Akris, proving that soft pastels can carry real strength when worn without competing makeup. Lucy Bridge brought high-energy warmth to Lacoste with saturated tangerine-orange lids, while Michael Kors opted for a sunshine-bright, bold matte yellow eye that instantly lit up the runway. To wear this look off the catwalk, keep the rest of the face bare - no heavy blush or lipstick required - and let a single, saturated sweep of color take center stage.
TEXTURED BOHEMIAN BRAIDS
Braids received a romantic, delightfully Victorian upgrade for Spring/Summer 2027, swapping tight, hyper-neat plaits for tactile, piecey textures that felt lived-in and artfully undone.
At Ann Demeulemeester, lead hairstylist Anthony Turner used Schwarzkopf products to craft bohemian, doll-like braids that felt fairytale-inspired yet distinctly modern. Plaits were gently pulled apart to encourage flyaways, creating a soft, halo-like fuzz around the crown and face that mirrored the poetic drapery of the collection.
At Annie’s Ibiza, legendary hairstylist Sam McKnight reimagined Victorian romance using Mr. Smith and his own Hair by Sam McKnight line. McKnight built exaggerated, extended waves before loosely weaving sectioned braids and blasting them with texture spray for a loose, wind-swept result. The key to recreating these bohemian plaits is avoiding perfection. Prep hair with a dry texture spray before braiding and once secured, gently tease the sides of the plait outward with your fingers to soften the structure and create that romantic, lived-in volume.
SKIN-FIRST NO-MAKEUP MAKEUP
SS27 pivoted entirely toward genuine skin health. This was 'no-makeup makeup' reborn: a movement where meticulous backstage skincare prep took absolute precedence over foundation, resulting in complexions that looked fresh and hydrated.
At Labrum, models stripped back the coverage completely, walking the runway with minimal complexion products to let real, glowing skin texture take the spotlight. Simone Rocha mirrored this bare-faced philosophy, pairing romantic garments with ultra-clean, barely-there makeup that highlighted natural freckles and authentic skin tones.
Backstage prep was where the real magic happened. At Richard Quinn, 111SKIN masks and serums were used to prep models' skin beforehand. Even when a look calls for dramatic lashes or eyeliner, a well-prepped canvas makes all the difference. At Moschino, lead makeup artist Jury Schiavi championed a fresh-faced finish, relying on lightweight hydration and subtle concealers only where necessary.
To achieve the look at home, invest your time in hydrating serums, facial oils and skin-massaging tools before applying a sheer tint or targeted concealer only where you actually need it.
