THE 10 BEST MULBERRY BAGS TO KNOW THIS SEASON
From the return of a Y2K staple to the latest silhouettes, these are the Mulberry bags to have on your radar.
We have a problem. A Mulberry-shaped problem.
In the wake of their Spring/Summer '27 show at London Fashion Week, their first in almost a decade, they've been occupying our every waking thought. From our first coffee to the last layer of our K-beauty wind-down, we're thinking about them.
About the Bayswater paired with our work fits. About carrying the Alexa in the crook of our arm while we're shopping for gifts. About the Darley catching the dance floor lights at the Christmas party.
So yeah, it's a problem. But let's be honest, it's not a bad one to have.
But what is it about the British label that's caught our eye?
Turns out, it’s been a long time coming. It won't have escaped your attention that, lately, fashion's found itself preoccupied with Y2K nostalgia. Crop tops. Skinny jeans. Velour tracksuits. The 'It bag'. And that's where Mulberry comes in.
There was a time in the mid-'00s when you couldn't open a magazine (remember them?) without seeing pictures of Kate Moss, Alexa Chung or Sienna Miller clutching the latest Mulberry. Especially the Bayswater, which was the bag any self-respecting millennial fashion obsessive wanted. A 21st century Birkin, if you will. Along with Chloé's Paddington (also enjoying a resurgence) and Fendi's Baguette (it never left), Mulberry practically wrote the playbook when it came to the 'It bag'.
And then there's Christopher Kane. The SS27 show wasn't just Mulberry's comeback. It was his, too. He might be the label's creative director for womenswear, but he put bags front and centre. Models carried top handles, satchels, totes, backpacks. And we fell in love. It didn't stop with the bags themselves, either. He took their details and put them into clothing. Think geometric cut-outs inspired by the Bayswater's iconic curved flap. The Postman's lock became oversized belt buckles and the focal point for loafers. And structured leather appeared throughout the collection, a nod to the clean lines found on many of their bags. Judging from the standing ovation during his bow (and the fact that we're still talking about it), it worked.
And beyond the runway, the Mulberryssance is taking shape. Lupita Nyong'o clutched the Amberley to promote The Odyssey this past summer. Pernille Teisbæk didn't go anywhere without her Bayswater during Copenhagen Fashion Week. Emma Roberts has been showing off her new Boston on her grid.
So, Mulberry is back. But that doesn't solve the question that we can't get out of our heads. Which bag do we go for? A Y2K classic like the Bayswater, understated and structured? The slouchy Alexa that's so effortlessly cool you can practically feel it? The Isla that'll take us from day to night? Or do we wait for the Delilah, coming to FLANNELS from November 6th?
We've curated the 10 best Mulberry bags you need to have on your radar. Whether you’re looking for a shoulder bag or a cross body silhouette, consider this your shortcut to get to finding the one.
The shapes, the moods, the details: everything you need to decide on your next obsession. This is our essential Mulberry edit.
Of course we’re starting with this one. If you hadn’t guessed from the introduction: we’re in love with it.
An ‘It bag’ doesn’t need to be in your face to make an impact. Sometimes, the details do the talking. And this is one of those times. The grained leather. The gold-toned Postman’s Lock. The hanging fob for the padlock. It might have been lifted straight out of 2003, but that understated satchel silhouette feels positively timeless.
The inside delivers, too. There’s a spacious central compartment to start with. It’ll fit your phone, your current read, your work laptop and your beauty essentials. Then there are three internal pockets for your cards and your keys.
We haven’t even talked about how you’ll carry it. Go for the top handles or in the crook of your arm. Perfect for the office. And don’t overlook the detachable shoulder strap for when you need to keep your hands free. It’ll look the part perched by your hip, whether you’re at brunch with friends or heading into the city for some retail therapy.
Our pick is the Bayswater in taupe. It taps into AW26’s fascination with brown, but those cool grey undertones make it easy to style with practically anything.
Yeah, we’re definitely in love.
If the Bayswater is the prim and proper big sister of Mulberry, then the Alexa is the rebellious little sister. The one that sneaks out to see indie bands playing in dive bars. The one who rolls in at 3am and is back at work by 7am.
That's right, the Alexa has entered the chat.
It's named for Alexa Chung, the 'It girl' of the late-'00s/early-'10s. And it's every bit as effortlessly cool. It's got the same satchel styling as the Bayswater, only slouchier. The signature fastening is front and centre, accompanied by adjustable straps. Like her big sister, there's a detachable cross-body strap. But the top handle? It's braided.
This is the one you'll grab for the gig, the gallery opening, the book launch. Especially in black. It'll work with leather bombers, striped shirts over sweaters, ballet pumps. Everything, really.
Just like Alexa herself.
East-West bags are having a moment. We clocked it when Ayo Edebiri was snapped with Bottega Veneta's Andiamo. Then Anne Hathaway confirmed it when we saw her with Coach's Empire Carryall.
But the one we’ve got our eyes on right now? Mulberry’s Boston.
It first turned our heads when Emma Roberts stepped out with hers in February. All pebbled leather and chalk. Then we did a double take when the house dropped it in suede. And not just any suede. Rich oak brown suede. Aka: the shade of the season.
It has plenty of room for your day in the city, from your water bottle to the presentation for that all-important client pitch. And if you’re travelling overnight, this is the one you’ll want. It’ll take care of a change of clothes, so you can do away with a bulky suitcase.
It never feels too formal, though. The suede keeps it relaxed. And the pebbled leather straps can always be adjusted on the go, thanks to those gold-finished buckles. The finishing detail? Mulberry’s Tree medallion.
Workdays. Weekends. Overnight stays. The Boston’s got city life covered.
Heritage is everywhere right now. We’re seeing it in the return of classic argyle and cable knits. We’re embracing traditional preppy codes without a second thought. On Netflix, Theo James can’t go an episode of The Gentlemen without slipping into tweed suits or houndstooth coats.
Mulberry are getting into the heritage mood. Case in point: the Hackney shoulder bag.
They dug deep into the archives for this. For the hardware, they looked to their early ‘70s fishing and hunting bags. And then they revisited the ‘00s for a slouchy hobo silhouette that gives boho in the best possible way.
It might read like the greatest hits, but don’t get it twisted: the Hackney is firmly now.
And we haven’t even talked about how it’s made. Every Hackney is handmade in Somerset: the same county where Mulberry was founded back in ‘71. It doesn’t stop there, either. It takes almost 30 artisans to make one bag using traditional leatherworking techniques.
It comes in a few sizes, but we rate the larger one for everyday convenience. Especially in shiny buffalo leather.
The Hackney isn’t just Mulberry playing around with heritage. It is Mulberry’s heritage.
The Princess of Wales can’t get enough of Mulberry. She’s carried the Mini Seaton on official engagements. She took the Bayswater Tote at a wedding. And back in the late noughties, she rocked a hot pink Hobo. With tassels. At a roller disco. Obviously.
But there’s one Mulberry that she keeps coming back to: The Amberley.
She’s stepped out with the Crossbody version in white to Wimbledon. She took a black, croc-embossed Top Handle to Windsor Castle. And we’ve seen her with the satchel in green at the Earthshot Prize awards.
It’s enough to get the Amberley on our radar. And yours.
Our pick? The Small Amberley Top Handle in smooth brown leather. We rate its compact equestrian-inspired shape and sleek curves. Then there’s the Rider’s Lock out front. It inverts the signature Postman for a detail that feels both timeless and current. And don’t forget the colour. It’ll pair with everything from a trench or a puffer to tailored trousers or your favourite midi skirt.
Okay, it won’t hold your laptop. But it’s not meant to. Reach for this when the dress codes reads formal. It’ll hold your phone for mid-event reels, and your beauty essentials for a quick touch-up.
Which makes us think: what does the Princess of Wales carry in hers?
Mary-Kate had one. So did Alexa. Kate, too. Moss that is, not the Princess of Wales (though we wouldn’t be surprised if she did). The Bayswater might have been the object of every fashion editor’s affection in 2004, but so was the Roxanne.
Part old-school satchel, part punkish reworking (with a deliciously knowing twist of course, soooo noughties), the Y2K Roxanne felt both bookish and cool. It made sense in a decade when we all swooned over ‘nerdy’ guys.
We might have moved on from our crushes, but the Roxanne still makes sense now.
Its lines are sharper and more angular, with curves across the top. The punkish hardware has been toned down. And top handles have replaced the original shoulder straps. That said, some things have stayed the same. The two saddle bag pockets are still front and centre. The buckles still gold-toned. And there’s still plenty of room inside.
The Roxanne has a family now, as well. There’s the clutch-like Mini. The standard shoulder bag. The wallet, essentially a sized-down saddle bag.
We’re all about the Small Roxanne in suede, though. It’s the perfect size for weekend strolls and shopping trips. And come festival season, And come festival season, that slightly grown-up Y2K energy will fit right in at the inevitable mid-'00s indie band reunion tour.
Elegant is a word that gets thrown around a lot by us fashion writers. But there really is no other way to describe the Mulberry Darley collection.
Just look at the design. The grained leather. The classic envelope design. The sharp lines. The Postman’s Lock in gold. See what we mean? Elegant, right?
It’s our top choice for Christmas party season. It’ll see you through the welcome drinks, the sit-down meal and the dancefloor. And if we had to choose one, it’d be the Small Darley in chalk every time.
That dusty neutral will work with everything from sequinned evening gowns and little black dresses to shawls and capes. Plus, it’s compact. When the night goes into the small hours, you don’t want to be weighed down with a bigger bag. This has room for the essentials: your cards, your phone, your keys. Round the back, there’s a flat zip pocket. It’s the perfect place to keep your cloakroom ticket so you’re not looking under seats when the lights come up.
We haven’t even talked about the gold chain strap. It’s subtle enough that it doesn’t overpower your look. And long enough that you can wear it cross body or off the shoulder. Oh, and it’s also removable, so you can carry it as a clutch if the mood strikes. And you know what else it is? Yes, you guessed it: elegant.
One of 2026’s most interesting fashion developments? Designers combining familiar silhouettes into one design, creating something new, but comfortingly familiar. So it shouldn’t come as a surprise that Mulberry are getting involved.
Meet the Isla.
Is it an East-West? Is it a satchel? Is it a tote? Turns out that the answer is yes, but also no.
It’s got the proportions of an East-West bag like the Boston. The foldover top is straight out of the Bayswater and Alexa playbooks. Meanwhile, the shape feels like a nod to the reworked Roxanne. And those long, slender, but surprisingly sturdy handles? Pure tote.
It might nod to Mulberry’s most recognisable silhouettes, but the Isla refuses to be defined by any of them.
It’s the ideal day-to-night essential. It’ll hold your notebook and laptop for the 9-to-5. There’s even room for heels when you’re swapping out your flats for after-hours drinks. Come the weekend, there’s space for impulse purchases and a change of clothes if you’re staying overnight with somebody special. And in clay, it’ll work with everything from tailored blazers and trousers to hoodies and jeans. Even date-night jumpsuits and dresses.
So yeah, what is it? We’ve spent a lot of time thinking about it. And we’ve decided that it’s simply… the Isla.
Some days, you want to get dressed up. Others, you’re happy to throw on your baggiest hoodie and jeans that are more rips than fabric and leave it at that. But who’s to say you can’t have a little glamour with both? After all, the right bag can pull together any look, no matter how dressed down.
Enter Mulberry’s Lily.
It might read evening bag at first glance (and it’ll work as one, for sure), but it can make even the most thrown-together outfit feel considered.
The glossy goatskin is the perfect excuse to play around with texture. Wear it with your sleekest softshell, the fluffiest knits, your most faded denim. The subtle embossed grain pattern adds another layer of texture, giving even an oversized shirt, joggers and slippers a sharper edge.
And the details don’t stop there. Just look at the strap: a gold-toned chain woven with leather. It feels almost like jewellery. Best of all? It can be worn long or doubled up and worn short underneath the arm, giving you plenty of options to style it out.
Add in the Postman’s Lock (what else?) and a traditional flap-top build, and the Lily’s proof that you don’t need to get dressed up to bring the glamour.
We said up top that we’re in love with the Bayswater.
That goes for the Tote, too.
If you never know what to take with you and grab everything just in case, this one’s for you.
There’s room in there for a lightweight anorak and an umbrella if it might rain. A spare pair of shoes in case you stay out longer than planned. Your tablet if your commute becomes a slog. Your laptop if your tablet’s battery dies. Your… you get the picture.
Plus, it comes with a removable compartment that’s perfectly sized for documents. Need to run important paperwork to your clients across town, but don’t want them to get creased? This is what it was made for. And while the rest of your bag might be a just-in-case free-for-all, at least your documents have their own space.
Colour-wise, we’ll go right back to the start. Go for taupe. It’s understated, versatile and works with practically everything in your wardrobe.
Now, what do we need to put in ours...?
