FLANNELS 3-WAYS:
You’ve got a last-minute invite and nothing to wear. Don’t panic, though: we’ve got you. From that mad dash around the city to the party itself, and the morning after, this is how dress for party season, c/o FLANNELS.
The lights are about to go down. The volume is about to get turned up. That's right, party season's almost here.
You've got everything under control this year. You've RSVP'd to your office Christmas meal. Your Calendar app's never been this full of events before. And you're already scouting out potential fits that'll make an impact. And if you're really on it, you've already curated the perfect getting-ready playlist (anything goes besides that Christmas song).
But if previous years have taught us anything, it's that something always comes up. There's also that one friend who impulsively decides at 3pm to throw a party that night (spoiler alert: we're usually that friend). And it won't be "come round and watch a film". It'll be fluid. Loud. Long. And suddenly, nothing looks like you planned.
So, you'll need to think on the fly. Outfits that'll see you through those last-minute shopping trips without losing your head. And then there's the party itself. What do you wear when you get the invite at 3pm, maybe 4pm, and your friend wants you there for 7? Don't overlook the day after, either. You're going to need something cosy after a heavy night.
Good job that we're here to help.
Welcome back to FLANNELS 3-Ways, your styling best friend, where we break down three ways to get dressed for three different occasions.
This time? We're helping you navigate those last-minute plans this season.
Whether you're making a mad dash for a new look, styling out those last-minute parties, or reaching for something cosy the next day, this is how to style party season, the FLANNELS way.
Picture it: it's 3pm. You're at your desk when your phone pings. There's a party on the other side of town tonight, starting at 8. Maybe 9. You don't think twice before you RSVP that you'll be there.
And then it hits you: you need a new fit.
Okay, so it's a tight deadline. But a doable one, if you're strategic and hit all the stores you need to (FLANNELS, anyone?). The same goes for what you're wearing: dress smarter, not harder. Step out in a co-ordinated, put-together look, and that mad dash into the city becomes a whole lot easier. Cosier, even.
For gents this season, that means denim-on-denim. But before you reach for a Stetson a la Justin Timberlake in 2001, keep it pared back. Think faded washes and whispering for that worn-in look. And ladies, reach for denim too, but add in a cosy knit. We're in our cosy era for AW26, so lean into the mood and go for pieces with brushed finishes.
When last-minute plans lead to last-minute shopping, consider this your playbook to styling it out...
So, you've made it into the city and you're up against it. As much as we hate to admit it, shops don't stay open 24/7. You haven't got time to try a dozen fits. Like we said before, this is where you need to be strategic.
When was the last time you went to a party that was chilled, laid-back? No, we can't remember either. That's because they're often non-stop. Think about it. From the cab ride to the entrance. From bar to the dancefloor. From club to club. From the last club to the afterparty. From the afterparty to your front door.
You're always on the go. So, what you wear needs to keep pace, without slowing you down.
Dial back the drama and stick to familiar silhouettes. But make them elevated, obviously. For womenswear, we're looking to LBDs. Just with a looser twist. Up top, a cosy teddy coat will keep you warm. On your feet? Knee-high boots are back on our radar, so they're a given.
And over in menswear, the classics are where it's at, too. Go for traditional shirting, with an oversized edge, naturally. Team it with a Harrington jacket featuring unexpected details. Down below, black jeans are a non-negotiable, as are loafers, which are showing no signs of leaving our wardrobe anytime soon.
Classics are classics for a reason. Because they work every time. But that doesn't mean you can't have fun with them. All that's left to do once you're dressed is to make your entrance.
This is how to nail dressing for the party, the FLANNELS way.
We've all been there. The party ran into the small hours. Then we went to the afterparty because we weren't ready to call it quits. The taxi took forever to get us home, that's if we could get one. And then before we knew it, we're putting the key in the door at 5am. Sometimes 6am.
If you're anything like us, you won't want to leave the house when you wake up. It'll be a duvet-on-the-sofa affair. Unfortunately, those sorts of days never quite work out the way you want them. You might run out of snacks (or even worse, coffee...). Or you might need to fetch that parcel before it's sent back.
You might be tempted to chuck any old hoodie on and keep the hood up. But stop. Sure, keep the look low effort, but that doesn't mean 'no effort'. Comfort is king this season, so lean into the mood, while keeping your fit considered.
We're talking layered looks. Sharp track jackets over hoodies and polished staples. Tracksuit bottoms or wide-legged trousers over sleek designer trainers. Finished with the essential accessories: hats, bags, sunglasses. The latter especially if it was a heavy night.
You might not want to leave the house, but by the time you get back, you'll feel less like the walking dead.
This is post-party recovery dressing 101.
