24 HOURS WITH:

JAMILLA STRAND

To celebrate the Autumn/Winter 23 BOSS collection, we spent a day in Milan with the model and tastemaker.

Milan. One of the big four fashion capitals of the world. Home to the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II (aka, Italy’s oldest shopping gallery), the Arco della Pace (the iconic city gate you’ve seen all over your Instagram) and, some of the best restaurants in the world. Milan is an epicentre of culture, filled with rich history and iconic fashion moments. The most recent addition to that list? BOSS’s Autumn/Winter 23 show.

To show us around the Italian fashion capital, tastemaker and model Jamilla Strand joined us for an epic 24 hours.

Over the past four years, Strand has built a name for herself in the fashion world as a model and content creator. And when it comes to style, the Swedish-Sudanese model is not playing. You can catch her on Instagram (where she’s amassed over 300k followers) wearing the season’s hottest pieces.

From what gets her up in the morning to how she unwinds, Strand sat down with us to talk career highlights, her biggest inspirations and all things fashion.

Join Strand as she takes us through her Milan moments. From bike tours to Italian essentials (read: lots of pasta) and attending the BOSS Autumn/Winter 23 show, this is what went down in Milan.

What gets me up in the morning is…

… an exciting schedule.

The first thing I do when I wake up is…

… pray. That sets me up for the day. I really try not to look at my phone.

My biggest inspiration is…

… my mom. She’s a warrior.

My morning routine is…

… get up, take a shower and, depending on my schedule, I’ll either get ready or I’ll go to the gym.

I’m not a coffee person.

I drink lots of water. For breakfast, I’ll have avocado toast or granola with Greek yoghurt, lots of fruit and berries. Or egg with avocado on the side. The most Swedish breakfast is bread with butter, cheese and tomato or something on top

When I have a lot going on, I need quiet.

If I'm out running errands and it's busy and loud, I often reach for my headphones and put them on noise cancellation to get a bit of quiet. It's crazy how well it works. It completely blocks of all noise and it feels like you're in your own world.

I wear whatever I feel like.

One day, I can wear men’s clothes, the next day, I’m in a mini skirt, mini top and heels. There’s no in between.

I’m working with a new stylist…

… her name is Muna Khalaf. She’s helped me experiment more with my style. Finding new vibes, trying new styles. It's so much fun.

Fashion is my life.

It's my job and my hobby. I kind of stumbled into it but it quickly turned into a passion. The more I do it, the more I love it.

I started working in fashion after college.

I got scouted and started working as a model, I did modelling full-time for two years and then I slowly started getting into digital creation. Which is now my full-time job.

My first BOSS look was the full cream look.

I did cream trousers with matching cream trainers, and a cream t-shirt which was a clean, relaxed, everyday look.

I had a cocktail look too…

… which was more of a girly girl, elegant Jamilla. It was a ribbed mini, and I added stockings and a strappy heel to that.

My look for the BOSS show…

… was really classy. I wore a trench coat, added sheer knee-high socks, big earrings and loads of rings to make it my own style.

Fashion week is intense.

In my everyday life outside of fashion week, I have a lot going on which I love. I'm always running errands and shooting projects. Fashion week is that times ten. It's super intense but that's kind of what I love about it.

This is one of my proudest career moments to date.

Being here with FLANNELS and BOSS, it’s really great and I’m so excited. I haven't been to a BOSS show before and I can't wait for this one.

My dream break right now is a full spa day.

After three weeks of fashion week, I want to be out in the countryside. I want a full spa day,

My typical evening is always the same.

If I cook, I’ll do something simple and fast. I usually do a halloumi wrap, with corn on the cob on the side. I do lots of salad with avocado and halloumi. Then I’ll sit down and eat in front of the TV, I want to be cosy and comfortable. I’m watching Game Of Thrones at the moment which I’m obsessed with.

In my free time, I like to go to the gym.

I love weights, I do lots of weight training. I always try and go to the sauna after to get all the toxins out of my body. It’s a nice way of finishing my session because it helps me feel relaxed. It’s good for body and mind.

I always make time to pray.

That’s my meditation. It keeps me sane, calm, and grounded.

One of the best things I have is a hammock.

I have a big balcony and whenever I feel worked up or stressed, I go out, lay down, close my eyes and focus on my breath. I try to empty my mind, even if I just do it for five minutes. I haven’t had it in the winter yet, but I’ll put on my big winter coat and go out – that hammock is not going anywhere.

I have so many mantras.

But one of them is: do good and good will come to you. It’s a reminder that even if someone does you wrong, don’t do the same thing to them. Don’t be as bad as them, don’t compromise yourself. Keep being good, you’ll get that back.

The last thing I do at night is…

… pray.
