SS24 MEN’S BAG TRENDS TO KNOW

Paragraph

WORDS: HANNAH DUNN + marni rose mcfall

Places to go. People to see. Bags to be seen with. The height of summer calls for a bag refresh. Beach bags, textured styles, big old totes: the new season has brought with it a host of bag styles to get your hands on. From Prada and Saint Laurent to Jacquemus and Bottega Veneta, the SS24 shows were packed with must-have bags, and now, it’s time to get your hands on them.

Long gone are the days of tired black backpacks. The It boys (Jacob Elordi, A$AP Rocky and Kit Connor) are toting their It toys (bags by Bottega Veneta, JW Anderson, Gucci etc) all over town, and giving us endless inspiration as they do it. As Alex Kessler put it in Vogue: “When it comes to bags, especially the most sought-after styles of the moment, they serve as the perfect finishing touch to an outfit.” Your It bag is the cherry on the cake of your already next-level summer ensemble. So, finish up and get ready to go. The SS24 hustle is on, and these are the bags we’re taking with us. From Jacquemus to Dolce&Gabbana, these are the styles to be seen with.

1. THE BIG TOTE BAG

A large and in charge tote bag is a wardrobe must-have. Merging street style with an ultra-luxe sensibility, you can throw all your worldly possessions in, make a statement and know you will always look good. That’s magic if you ask us. This season, Bottega Veneta have delivered pared-back, minimal takes, complete with their cult woven leather, of course. Saint Laurent and Prada are putting their name on the trend with their logo-adorned, oversized big black bags. And if you’re really looking to turn up the heat? Then it’s time to turn to Burberry who've covered a classic tote bag with their iconic checks in. Trust us, these totes are outfit makers. Plus, they make the perfect travel accessory...

2. THE TRENDING BROWN BAG

ICYMI, brown is one of the trending colours of the season. And what better way to work it into your wardrobe than with a staple bag? Dries Van Noten make it seem effortless, with a soft and supple leather iteration that hangs off the shoulder. While Loewe’s cult Puzzle Bag proves it’s going nowhere. Looking for something with a sense of humour? Saint Laurent’s Saint Cigarette Box is just what it says on the tin; a leather mini bag based on the design of a pack of fags. Genius.

3. THE TEXTURED BAG

This season, the trick is in the texture. Whether you go for puffy or woven, these bags were made to be touched. Masters of the textured trend, your wardrobe isn’t complete without a touch of Bottega Veneta’s signature Intrecciato weave, and this season they’re delivering it to you via a neat Camera Bag and a mega Duffle Bag. So, whether you want to go little or large, there’s a way to take texture into your SS24 wardrobe. Ready for a long, hot summer? Us too. Saint Laurent has delivered the holiday bag in the form of their Raffia Tote Bag. Ideal for the beach, the bar and and everything in between. While Burberry have puffed it up with their fold over Cross-body Bag in a royal blue version of their signature checks.

1. THE NEW BACKPACK

Gorpcore or corpcore? Logos, or all-over black? There’s a style to suit every aesthetic with these new-season backpacks. Office energy is a hot topic this season, so jet black backpacks that’ll blend seamlessly with your workwear via Saint Laurent will make for a solid investment. Expedition on the cards? Moncler Grenoble is all gorped up and ready to go with their Monclerg Backpack that comes in two-tone beige and khaki with bold accents of orange. Looking for something louder? Gucci’s monogrammed take plays into our enduring logo mania appeal – fashion’s favourite data account, Data But Make It Fashion reported a 7% increase in logos this season. So long quiet luxury.

1. THE BEACH BAG

Heading on your holidays? You’ll want a big bag to take with you. Dual purpose, it’ll serve as the ideal hand-luggage option come your flight, with enough room for layers, spare looks and great books, transforming for days spent on the beach. Top of our shopping list? Jacquemus’s Le Cuerda Tote Bag in black with off-white straps for carting all your stuff around. Prefer something in a little hue? Try Saint Laurent’s River Gauche bag, Balenciaga’s Army Medium Tote or Dolce&Gabbana’s DG Is Better bag that aptly reads "Dolce&Gabbana, where it’s always summer.” Amen to that.
