NOTTING HILL CARNIVAL LOOKS:
\
After a two-year hiatus, Notting Hill Carnival is back. And this year promises to be bigger, louder and bolder than ever. Sitting alongside the music is a rich history of fashion. From the intricately designed and handcrafted costumes of the parade to the out-there looks of the Carnival goers, the weekend is renowned for its fits. So, who better to curate an edit of the key pieces to wear this year than multihyphenate R&B artist Maxi Millz.
Hailing from west London, Maxi is famous for his Carnival parties. With another on the horizon this year – and his first since releasing debut EP Captions – Maxi explains what Carnival means to him, what Carnival style is all about and what he’s most looking forward to this year…
Just in case the weather takes an unexpected turn, it’s good to have a slightly warmer fit up your sleeve. Stone Island’s Lightweight Overshirt will help protect you from the elements. Add a nylon cap, simple black shorts and white trainers (word of warning: they won’t stay box fresh for long).
Notting Hill Carnival means…
A freedom of cultural expression. A holiday at home, surrounded by the smells and tastes of the islands we all came from.
Carnival style is all about…
For some it’s about being loud and drawing the most attention through beautifully designed intricate costume. For others it’s about wearing your current favourite clothes not getting them ruined (laughs). You wear whatever you want, it doesn’t matter, no one cares – just don’t look wack.
My best Carnival memory is…
Every Carnival party I throw is a good Carni memory. Seeing Sean Paul when I was like 16 years old at Subterranea was fun.
After a two-year hiatus, the thing I’m most looking forward to about Carnival this year is…
Organising the first Carni party I’ve had the chance to curate in close to three years. Booking all the DJs and acts that have been reminding me to book them since the last one. And most importantly, giving the people what they want.
To get ready for Carnival, what song are you playing on repeat?

Greens have been reigning supreme over the past year and Casablanca have served up the goods. A bang on the money matching silk co-ord makes getting dressed easy. Just add a bucket hat for rain or shine and a pair of New Balance’s heavily sought-after 550s.
Buttoned up or left undone, a short-sleeve shirt is the perfect Carnival pick. Ambush is keeping things interesting with their wavy design. Pair with all-black pieces – Marni’s slick black leather sneakers, Acronym’s nylon shorts and Amiri’s Harness bag. Coming with a nice five pockets, it’s the easiest way to pack up all your Carnival essentials.
