FASHION WEEK EDIT:

THE STREET STYLE TRENDS YOU NEED TO KNOW

Fresh out of fashion month, the FLANNELS paparazzi have snapped up the biggest trends to know, straight off the fashion week streets. So: what have we learnt? This season, the fashion world is having fun with things. From fresh, fun-loving optimistic looks to reinterpreted classic styles and a newfound love for hard-working wardrobe staples, the fashion set is doing whatever they want. The only rule? There are no rules. Just have a good time. From gothcore to all-out ‘90s nostalgia (here’s looking at Gucci) all the way to mega Miu Miu looks, these are the street-style looks to know this season.

PUT YOUR PANTS ON DISPLAY

Pants are having a big year. No really. What was once relegated to being merely an ‘under’ garment is now an ‘over’ garment. As Tora Northman reported for FLANNELS: “Trousers are officially out for SS24.” It’s a pants game now. Thanks to Mother Miuccia, we’re taking our trousers off, pulling our pants up over tights (statement hosiery is another of the seasons key trends, FYI) and wearing borrowed-from-the-boyfriend boxers, peeping out over the top of our jeans. Feel like having a go (if you’re hard enough)? Make like Miu Miu and pair a button down with a pair of pants, grab your It bag of choice (we recommend Miu Miu’s classic Hobo Bag) and finish things off with a pair of knee-highs boots and a string of pearls.

IT’S A FASHION FUNFAIR

High shine metallics, big energy accessories, attention-grabbing footwear. Call it the Gen-Z effect, but fun-loving fashion is on a high right now. A perfect harmony between aughts-inspired style and club-coded pieces, the fashion week streets were filled with statement-making pieces that proved playful fashion is here to stay. And no one is having fun like Diesel and Jacqeumus. Opt for glossy, party-ready cult picks by way of Diesel’s silver tank top and their certified cult, logo-heavy offerings, like the Micro Belt Skirt and the 1DR Shoulder Bag. On your feet? You’re in for a treat. What’s better than a pair of Jacquemus heels? Two pairs of Jacquemus heels. That’s right, for SS24, Jacquemus have stacked two pairs of heels, together, instantly delivering the party shoes of the season. We told you fun loving fashion was back.

THESE ARE HOT HOT PANTS

One of the most surprising trends to come off the SS24 runways? The return of the hot pant. Perhaps when you consider the unstoppable rise of trouser-less looks, the hot pants return isn’t actually that surprising. But nevertheless, the humble hot pant has whipped up a veritable fashion frenzy. So: how do you style the shorter-than-short piece? Well, you’ve got to do it like Caroline Daur. Opt for a pair of barely-there shorts hot off the Gucci presses from their just launched Gucci Ancora collection, pair with one of Dolce & Gabbana’s black lace bralettes and throw on one of Gucci’s sweeping black overcoats. To finish? A pair of loafers and a classic Gucci Jackie Bag. That’s hot.

SEEING RED

SS24? It’s a red-hot game. Dubbed the colour of the season by High Snobiety, and as Alex Kessler wrote in Vogue, “fashion’s obsession with bright red has been impossible to ignore.” And the hot hot hue is going nowhere. Thanks in no small part to Sabato De Sarno’s debut Gucci collection, where he showed look after look in a shade he dubbed “Gucci Rosso”. To style? Take a leaf out of the Camille Charriére – darling of the fashion world and street style aficionado – playbook, and opt for glossy leather picks in rich, burgundy shades.

LET’S GO GOTHCORE AGAIN

Sure, in some echelons of the fashion world, the fashion set is living for bold brights and fun-loving pieces. In others? Melancholia prevails. That’s right: the goth girl is back in a big way for SS24. Ghoulish and grumpy, today’s goths are increasingly wearing workwear with a Wednesday Addams twist. For SS24 it’s all about the business ghoul; where traditional workwear takes a trip to the dark side by way of leather, eyeliner and fishnet tights. The way to nail the look? Opt for big black blazers, patterned tights, mini skirts and bralettes. Just don’t blame us if you start hanging out at bus stops, proclaiming: “We’re the weirdos mister.”

ALL THE STREETWEAR STAPLES

You’ve heard of the wardrobe staple: the classic, simple pieces which make up the backbone of your wardrobe. Now, it’s time to meet the streetwear staple. Think of these as quiet luxury’s estranged cousin. The kind that shows up at Christmas in a mildly unhinged outfit and always knows how to make an entrance. They hold the same appeal as the classic wardrobe staple, but they’re infused with a streetwear sensibility and cult credentials. And if you’re wondering which streetwear staples you need to know for SS24? Don’t worry, we got you. Start with a logo infusion by way of Marine Serre’s signature Moon Top and opt for some large and loose cargo trousers from Acne Studios. Then? You’ll need an Acne It bag – the Platt Mini bag has the fashion world in a chokehold right now – and finish things off with a pair of Jacquemus Kitten Mules. Easy.
