FASHION WEEK EDIT:
Some things come and go in the world of fashion, but French style? That’s a constant. Famed for being easy, effortless and endlessly chic, it bred the O.G. It Girls (think Jane Birkin, Bridgette Bardot, Francois Hardy) and some of the most iconic fashion brands in the world. Simply put, it’s just got a certain je ne sais quoi.
To celebrate the biggest fashion event of the year taking over Paris, we’re exploring the best of luxury French fashion. From heritage fashion houses, like Saint Laurent and Givenchy, to contemporary brands like Marine Serre and Jacquemus, these designers wrote (and, rewrote) the book on getting dressed. From the classic to the cult, this is everything you need to know about French fashion in 2025.
In 2025, Jacquemus are doing what they do best: exactly what they want. From a 500-meter pink runway slicing through lavender fields to the palace of Versailles turned into a playground, they’ve made theatre their business. Capri’s 15th birthday blowout? A mic-drop for the ages. Jacquemus are having more fun than anyone else in fashion right now. And they’re not slowing down.
From casting and dressing every It girl around, from Jennie Kim and Gigi Hadid to Dua Lipa and Anya Taylor Joy, to launching out-of-the-box campaigns and pop ups, Jacquemus has brought the sun-drenched spirit of Provence to the fashion world, and we can’t get enough. The must-haves from the brand? Their bold tailored styles, endless array of It bags and fun prints. It’s in Simone we trust.
Statement-making style, eye-catching couture, and more cult picks than you can count; Balenciaga knows how to make fashion their own. First founded in 1919 by the legendary Christóbal Balenciaga, the brand’s couture designs have long been the stuff of fashion legend.
This season’s curveball? Wrinkled navy suits, moth-eaten pinstripes, godet-cut coats, and trenches gone maxi in faux fur. Since Pierpaolo Piccioli took over this summer, the house has kept its grip on the It-girl crowd - think Naomi, Rihanna and beyond. The result? Must-have pieces that set the fashion world on fire season after season.
Charaf Tajer’s been rewriting the rules of luxe - no fuss, just bold prints and relaxed silhouettes that feel as natural as a warm breeze. Since 2018, Casablanca has been serving effortless style that’s approachable, vibrant, and quietly confident. Perfect for anyone who wants to stay fresh, all year long.
Casablanca’s always lived between two worlds - French polish and Moroccan soul. But for AW25, it’s all about evolution. The collection’s called “Kaizen,” a nod to slow, steady progress - not a reinvention, just leveling up. Expect sun-soaked shades to playful childhood nostalgia prints and menswear suits with unexpected pops of colour, every piece is effortless, bold, and unmistakably them. But that signature Casablanca colour? Still here, just winterised. Who says you can’t wear saffron in sub-zero?
One of the hottest designers on the scene right now? Marine Serre. After exploding into the industry back in 2017, Serre has made a name for herself as part of a new generation of French luxury. At the heart of the brand’s ethos is a disruptive, punk energy. Serre uses deadstock materials, recycling and upcycling fabrics to create unique designs that have achieved instant cult status.
The brand has amassed a legion of celebrity fans that includes everyone from Beyoncé to Burna Boy. Dubbed ‘Heads or Tails’, the latest runway serves us crescent-moon prints, regenerated one-offs, and powerful silhouettes. Femme fatale energy from the ’50s to ’80s runs through it all, with must-haves like the AURORA bag, moon-leather catsuit, and sculptural jewellery capsule.
Saint Laurent is the fashion blueprint. Bold, fresh, and filled with attitude, their fashion legacy is one of disruption; from their iconic 1966 ‘Le Smoking’ tuxedo to their new-gen naked looks and iconic campaigns fronted by everyone from Kate Moss to Zoe Kravitz. As creative director Anthony Varcello himself said, Saint Laurent is a part of your life, whether you know it or not.
This year, the cult streak continues. Think oversized blazers in loud, look-at-me shades; sheer crochet with attitude; and latex worked into the mix. Off the runway, they’re rewriting history as the first luxury house to step into filmmaking. Saint Laurent makes the rules, we just follow.
Balmain have long been key players in the luxury game. Founded in 1954, they’ve seen a roster of fashion legends at the house, including Oscar de la Renta. As for the current creative director Olivier Rousteing, he made fashion history when he became the youngest designer in Paris since Yves Saint Laurent himself. Bold and empowering, they’re known for their military aesthetics, structured silhouettes and body-hugging dresses. With Zendaya, Beyoncé and Naomi Campbell among their fans, their hold over the fashion world is going nowhere fast.
More recently? Think chandelier dresses lighting up Instagram, AW25 featured in Vogue France, and Lindsay Lohan back in the spotlight with Elle USA. From star-studded red carpets to runway shows that set the tone for the season, Balmain continues to shape the conversation around luxury fashion one design at a time. Rousteing’s Balmain? Still running the show.
The most iconic shoes in, well, ever? It’s a big claim. But one that Christian Louboutin has more than earned. Home to those red-bottom heels, Louboutin is in a league of his own. From the classic Pigalle heel to their rave-ready, fluorescent wedges, these are shoes that have a monopoly on fun. Christian Louboutin’s new power move? Jaden Smith, his first-ever men’s creative director. The rapper-actor’s headed to Paris to drop his debut collection this January – and we’re here for it.
2025’s heavy hitters? Pure cult status. Think ballet-ready stilettos, the Astroskate Sneaker (an evolved take on the Astroloubi with a high-energy edge) and It bags in bold textures: fluffy, tasselled, spiked and suede. Louboutin keeps delivering cult moments, and right now, there’s never been a better time to add a piece to your rotation.
Givenchy is the real deal. First founded in 1952, the house became a fashion legacy when Audrey Hepburn donned her little black dress in Breakfast At Tiffany’s. From Givenchy himself to John Galliano and Alexander McQueen, the house has been home to fashion royalty. And what’s more, masters of statement-making fashion.
Since her debut as Creative Director, Sarah Burton has captured the beauty of all women - models, collaborators, even the photographer. Unposed gestures, laughter, and conversation bring her multi-generational vision to life at Givenchy. Key looks to note? Spot Jenna Ortega’s Broken Chandelier Dress at the 77th Emmys, Michaela Coel in September’s issue of British Vogue, and acid-yellow couture built for maximum drama.
