SUMMER '26:
For the new season, fashion is turning back to the classics. From statement sneakers to comfortable slip-ons, these are the styles and shoes to know about.
It feels good to say that spring/summer ’26 is here. The mood is shifting, as our favourite labels begin to drop their long-awaited collections. Spring is giving way to summer, and with it, we’re finally moving away from transitional dressing. Instead, we’re getting dressed for long days and warm nights. Out come the shorts. The sunglasses. The short-sleeved shirts. But footwear is where this shift shows itself first. Heavy-duty boots are out, and lighter, more breathable options are in.
Summer ’26 sees fashion embracing and redefining classic footwear staples. We’re not talking radical reinventions, more considered reinterpretations. It’s a season of firsts: Louise Trotter at Bottega Veneta and Demna Gvasalia at Gucci are amongst the new hands at major houses that are setting the tone. And it’s often footwear where newly installed designers show their hand first. It’s there that they can navigate honouring what came before while pushing forward.
In short: the staples haven’t changed, but who’s making them has.
These moves have had a ripple effect across fashion. Take Fendi for example. They’ve taken the humble loafer, a reliable failsafe that always sees us through summer, and reworked it in braided leather. The effect is quietly dramatic. Familiar, yet unfamiliar, all at once.
Elsewhere, the flip-flop is being reimagined. Once seen as a cringeworthy ‘dad shoe’, this summer sees it emerge as an essential, reiterated in leather and treated with the respect it deserves. Meanwhile Jacquemus reimagine the slider with penny loafer detailing for an upscale take on a staple that often feels taken for granted.
The season’s boldest energy sits in the sportier categories: trainers. Past seasons have seen a multitude of black or white low-tops, and while there’s always a place in our wardrobes for monochrome, we’re moving towards brighter colours. Statements, to be precise. Louise Trotter’s take on Bottega Veneta’s classic Orbital Sneakers is infused with a pop of buttery yellow, while Off-White’s new Be Right Back Trainers feature vibrant hues of coral red. And in styles where colour takes a back seat, sporty silhouettes move to the forefront. At Jacquemus, low-top tennis-inspired shoes are in, while Grace Wales Bonner’s latest collection with adidas Originals joins forces with Y3, creating a football boot-inspired design that feels like a hat-trick.
So, with your boots being consigned to the back of the wardrobe, now’s the time to start bringing fresh energy into your seasonal rotation. Whether it’s classic shapes moving into the spotlight, underrated favourites finally getting their moment, or sportier silhouettes defining your look, we’ve got you covered.
From Burberry slip-ons to Prada sneakers, these are the labels and styles to start adding to your collection this summer.
If your summer plans involve long road trips followed by cooling off in the lake, you’ll need a pair of low-effort, high-impact shoes. That’s where slip-ons come in. At the top of our list: Fendi’s Braided Loafers. Handmade with an open-weave design, they’ve been on our mind since we first laid eyes on them.
Bottega Veneta caught our eye too. Their Daddy Loafers have a foldable heel, so you can wear them as a mule. A smart but subtle twist.
Want to do away with the heel entirely? Go for Burberry’s Urchin Clogs. Sleek and clean, they’re finished with a hit of the house’s signature check for extra polish.
Flip-flops are firmly in the conversation for summer ’26, no longer something brought on holiday only to be forgotten when you got home. We rate Gucci’s Maverick Flip-Flops. The Green-Red-Green Web? The Interlocking G? The leather footbed? We love. Ideal for the beach and beyond.
Prada’s Thong Sandals hit just as hard. Lug soles give good traction, and the black colourway works well across the rest of your wardrobe.
Strappy sandals deserve attention too.
Fendi’s FF Sandals are proof, with the all-over logo in rich brown giving a subtle nod to Fendi’s heritage.
Dolce & Gabbana’s Roman-esque Leather Sandals close the line-up. Sleek in black, with the logo on the ankle strap as a quiet power move.
They may not be a new trend, but for summer ’26, sliders are the ‘It Shoes’ you’ll need in your wardrobe. Jacquemus set the standard with their Mocassin Sliders. Co-opting the classic penny loafer and featuring lambskin footbeds that are contoured to your feet, they’re an elevated take on a staple.
Bottega Veneta make the case too, with their signature Intrecciato weave adorning the Elio Sliders. The rich brown colour brings a hit of Italian sophistication that can’t be ignored.
Elsewhere, Versace lead with their house codes as well. The La Medusa Rubber Sliders feature the iconic emblem in gold-toned metal, with embossed La Greca detailing on the strap. Heritage never looked so good.
Sneakers aren’t going anywhere this season. In fact, they’re bringing the energy. Look to Prada first. Their Spark Sneakers in rich navy anchor any look. The combination of their signature Re-Nylon fabric and suede works every time.
For something more standout, go for Gucci’s 2.0 Web Trainers. The signature green-red-green web is meant to be noticed, while sandy overlays balance the look.
Finally, Off-White sneakers are always a FLANNELS favourite. This season we’re all about their Be Right Back Trainers. The house’s signature zip tie and arrows are used perfectly, doused in a fiery coral red signalling the heat of summer.
If bold pops of colour are not your thing, don’t worry. Summer ’26 embraces sporty silhouettes too. Let's head back to Jacquemus. Their tennis trainers embody classic court shapes that will work at Wimbledon or Windermere. Finished in a neutral colour, they’ll be an everyday staple this season.
adidas Originals by Wales Bonner teams up with Y-3 this summer. The standout? The Field Lizzard Shoes. Inspired by football boots, they’re embellished with snakeskin detailing and a fold-over tongue that add more to your off-duty wardrobe.
And then there’s Prada. For a summer spent by the lake, look to their Americas Cup Sneakers. The 90s-inspired design features fluid shapes and technical fabrics that’ll keep your feet cool all day.
