Alongside the mirror-ball horse lovingly named Reneigh and Queen B herself, of course, fashion became a key character throughout the RENAISSANCE WORLD TOUR. Each night all eyes were on the stage for Beyoncé’s ever-changing looks. Calling on some of the world’s most coveted stylists to deliver, K.J Moody, British Vogue’s Julia Sarr-Jamois, costume designer Shiona Turini and stylist Karen Langley, were responsible for creating our very own Roman Empire.
From that hot pink Valentino bodysuit and boots combo, complete with feather-adorned sunglasses, to Balenciaga’s floor-length gown that featured more than 8,000 crystal rhinestones and Marc Jacobs towering “Kiki” boots, it’s impossible to pick favourites when all 148 of Beyoncé’s RENAISSANCE WORLD TOUR looks delivered. But, as a starter for 10, these are the ones we’re hoping to see up close and personal on the big screen very soon…
Queen B donned the ultimate tribute to the Beyhive in a custom Dolce&Gabbana black and yellow bodysuit. The finishing touches? Long black gloves and bug-eyed sunglasses that were fixed to the head with black elastic. The singer wore another nod in Stockholm, with a custom Mugler catsuit complete with a headpiece, towering antennas and bug-like glasses.
When you think of all-out chrome looks, Rabanne comes instantly to mind. And when it came to designing a piece for the tour, they the custom silver mirror-effect dress featured more than 8500 pieces, took 80 hours of work and was assembled entirely by hand in Paris.
Gucci created many a jaw-dropping tinsel-themed look for the RENAISSANCE WORLD TOUR (see above) but this one worn in Miami might just have taken the crown. A shimmering silver and black corseted bodysuit was paired with a big-brimmed hat and thigh-high silver fringed boots.
Reminiscent of her Destiny’s Child days, Beyoncé took to the stage in a piece from her own IVY PARK label. Ft. a sequinned bodysuit, a custom sequinned cropped jacket and thigh-high, sky-high boots all in a camouflage print. The finishing touch? Her signature wide-brimmed hat, camo-print gloves and oversized shades.
Hot on the heels of designing Beyoncé’s Oscars performance dress last year, David Koma crafted an iridescent, intergalactic design especially for the RENAISSANCE WORLD TOUR. Playing off his SS23 collection, the full look featured a vibrant minidress, blue patent cowboy boots, an asymmetrical leather jacket and high-shine chrome sunglasses.
In Houston, Beyoncé donned a custom-designed Balmain gown by creative director Olivier Rousteing. Covered in polka dots, the dress was cut to the thigh, complete with a huge rosette, white opera gloves and layers upon layers of pearls worn around the neck and in the place of straps.
One of the opening night looks that we’re still talking about all these months later came from Jonathan Anderson at Loewe. A custom-made gold catsuit, it featured the brand’s signature trompe l’oeil hands motif, coming up from the feet and across the body. For an added touch, matching black rubber latex gloves were added.
You don’t get much more out of this world than a silver and gold custom-made leather set designed by Marni. The ensemble in question? A cropped puffer jacket with an oversized collar and gloves, a bodysuit cut to the top of the leg and thigh-high boots; all in matching silver and gold leather, complete with fragments of crystal for added shine. The finishing touch? Huge rectangular sunglasses, complete with crystals.
In a step change from the disco-inspired outfits, her performance at Inglewood, California, saw the singer step into a barely-there gown by Dolce&Gabbana. Consisting of a corseted bodice, big energy, off-the-shoulder train and lace tights, the look was finished off with huge, tiered chandelier earrings.
Donned during her 42nd birthday show in Inglewood, California, this head-to-toe Versace ensemble didn’t hold back. Featuring matching over-the-knee boots, dress and hat in the brand’s signature Barocco pattern, the blue and yellow minidress was crafted by three members of the atelier over 600 hours. “It’s glamorous, it’s irreverent, it’s full of powerful attitude,” Versace told Vogue. The singer also chose a floor-skimming silver Versace gown for the global premiere of RENAISSANCE: A FILM BY BEYONCÈ in Los Angeles.
